Thats exactly what I thought when I installed the new thrust tail grips so I bought the new pitch slider aswell and FYI it made NO difference whatsoever. The secret in the end was lowering the "Rudder Locking Gain" value in the software on the PC not the gyro gain, down from default 70 to 45, it was the only way to eliminate the wag! This tip was given by Coolice the expert here on 3gx and it worked a treat for me anyway, so worth a try (it actually says in the software that too high a value will result in a SLOW tail wag in hover when you hold your mouse over it)

I've just installed v3.1 and the settings seem to be restored but I did go through the DIR and tail gyro setups again to be safe. Seems ok on the bench, just need to test fly it now hopefully this weekend looks good.
N.B I did reset the gain pots to 12.O'Clock position before the upgrade also and I did have to move those dials right up again to get the same gain values in the software that I had before, so some changes going on there also, but no problems with the software crashing, must be an issue with your PC if that's happening.

Will give the rudder lock gain a go via the PC. I'll still be upgrading the tail slider though, just to keep the heli up to date.
Once I'm happy with the 3GX I'll be fitting a Hyperion 2218 3595Kv motor' 50A ESC & CC bec I pulled out of my old SE-V2 before I sold it.
I'm doing more 3D these days & want to try with a bit more power.

Dropped the rudder lock gain, just waiting for the wind to drop from 20-65mph for a test flight (ho-hum) Having to use a mates computer as mine has died (hard-drive) the lap-tops playing 'silly beggers' (taken an aversion to discs) & the tablets just a waste of time in situations where wireless or bluetooth are the only way of connecting. Oh how I love technology.
Aye lads-remember the days when you needed a tool kit to make any changes to helis performance-lol:0

I'm confident that you will notice the difference but may now need to raise your normal tail gyro gain to compensate, which is easy to do via the Tx.
We are all eagerly awaiting the 3gx Bluetooth dongle add on so we can easily change these settings without a bloody PC.
It's still a bit breezy down south too.

love maidens with updates! A bit like Russian roulette out of the film 'the deer hunter'
I will up the tail gain before next flight. I did go through a full DIR as a precaution also.
A Bluetooth app would be a godsend-but I'm not holding my breath.

Got back from work tonight, conditions perfect, bright blue sky & light 3-5mph wind from the East.
Test flight! started her up & popped her up into a hover-mmm-tails not holding. Must be the gain, landed-into the tx & upped the gain. Try again-nope-just tail drift, but now with an added wag, dropped gain again & went for a test flight.
Tail still not holding-but I thought "give it a go" basic hover & gentle circuit with a couple of piros. OK, lets try a big circuit, all fine until the wind caught the tail on the return anti-clockwise-major wag! After all of this batt was spent, landed & fitted another pack. Take off & this time did a couple of basic loops, all's fine there (but once I slowed them down the tail drift came back in. Next thing was a roll, went into a roll for a basic tail in inverted hover & all hell broke loose-what the feck! after a quick dance around the sky I recovered it. Out of curiosity, tried again-this time its was much worse, barely had any control, finally rolled her back upright-but still still not in full control & climbing-fast!
Ended up some 50M's out & around 100M's+ to my left & she was getting very small. Hit throttle hold & it was obvious within seconds the blades were slowing & down she went. At around 15M's from the deck took throttle hold out & after a couple of piros (still in idle up) regained control a couple of M's off the deck & landed her.
I by this time was shaking like a sh1tting dog, pulled the batt out & headed home to post this.
Right my set up is V3.1 software, rudder lock gain dropped down from 70 to 45, ele & ail pots turned up to 12 o'clock (did this while heli wasnt powered up) Futaba 10cp 2.4 & SB rx (light on rx still showing green on landing-so no loss of signal) & the helis flying like I'm not in full control, very lazy on the cyclic (compared to 3.0 software) & I'm having more than a few control issues

                  Oh dear not good
I will be testing my 3.1 update tomorrow for 1st time so holding my breath that it behaves itself. Will report back. Rather than tweaking 3.1 it sounds like a more serious error, I do hope I don't have the same problems.

Gorgeous day today, so had a good test fly with V3.1 for the first time and i'm glad to report that all was fine, no problems noticed with the update. It does feel a bit different and more steady and i did need to tweak the gain settings up a touch again, but overall pretty pleased and relieved all went well with the upgrade on my heli anyway. So 3.1 won't fix issues if you have them on 3.0 but will not cause more issues as far as i can tell, i did have it setup pretty well in 3.0 before i updated to 3.1 though

I'm going to move gain pots back to original position, power up & then move the pots up to 12 o'clock.
After sitting down & thinking about it, all was fine until I started stirring the sticks a bit. Loss of control has to be down to not having enough gain & me over correcting-heli plays catch up, by which time I'm doing something else & it goes a bit Pete Tong.
My last upgrade on the 3GX (2.1 to 3.0) cost me £80 in spares & I'd rather not take the chance on another £80 but I loved the way the heli flew on the 3.0
Tail wag has got to be something I've done wrong stripping-lubing & rebuilding the new thrust raced blade grip set. (thread lock perhaps) After six cans of Stella last night (my nerves were shot) Did look towards buying a V-bar, but lots of money to throw at a beater. I have V-bar on my 550 & apart from a couple of visits into the software (twice at the field during shakedown & three times to speed up cyclic) was a fit & forget unit-very tempting at its new lower price.

ok coolice borrowed my 700e 3gx Today after he did the v3.1 update and a bit of tweaking he put my model though its paces with no problems at all.
my 1st impression is it feels very locked in and better than 2.1 Early days and I hope to put some more time on it tomorrow.

Pulled the heli apart this AM. Found the problem (or part of it)Hi-tec 5065 swash servo, the pin that holds the primary gear (the plastic one) had sheared, mesh was holding-then letting go-holding-repeat-repeat. Only found it when I started stirring the sticks & could hear the servo starting to whine when going to max throw.
No wonder I was having problems with control LOL. So a lucky recovery & landing.
Pulled the back end of the heli apart & the only thing I found wrong was a little stiction on the slider (I'm ordering the new upgrade parts) so hoping that may be where I'm getting that annoying occasional wag.
Re-set the gains on the 3GX with the unit powered up.
Just waiting on spares now, really busy over the next 7-10 days. I will be keeping an eye out on the forum as to how the 3.1 upgrade works for others

Put two batts through the heli today. Heli flies well on the 3.1 upgrade, take off & landings are much improved.
Tail wag persists though & its not related to tx values. I've also changed the settings on the 'rudder lock gain' (as suggested, 75 down to 45) with no effect.
I'm about to order a couple of parts from FL, I will be getting the new upgrade tail slider, as I think my old slider is worn (perhaps where the wag is coming from?) If this doesnt work I'm going to fit the old tail hub/grip, as I changed over to the thrust raced hub/grip & upgraded the software at the same time & narrow the search down further.
