  • 3GX End point settng

Can anyone confirm that reducing the End Point Setting has a similar end result to reducing DR on the transmitter?

    Thanks.

I don't know for certain, but my guess would be not.

The 3GX needs to know the end points such that it knows how much throw it can use when correcting movement of the heli due to wind etc. The DR on the transmitter only changes how much the servo move to controlled input.

At least - that's my interpretation! Might be wrong!

      Hey.

No, you need to leave the transmitter end points (or ATV's) at their 100% in either direction stock setting. Altering these is not good for the 3GX and can cause problems in flight.
However you can make full use of your dual rates and exponential values to tame a lively helicopter, so adjust these down to comfortable levels as required, but leave the travel limits set to +/-100%.
Same also applies to your swashplate mix values, once these have been set to give the required 8 degree's of cyclic while in DIR mode do not alter them.

        3GX End point settng

        Edit: see Ian just replied

Sure coolice will step in here but from what I understand it is not the same. If you want to make it roll or flip less aggressively you change the roll and pitch rates it the software and leave the tx end points alone in the 3gx

          LOL, beat ya
          Well remembered buddy.

As above to then alter the flip or roll rate should you not have enough (or too much) you can do so using a PC or via the 3GX itself. Although more accuaret changes can be made using a PC/Laptop.
This can be combined with your dual rates and exponential to achieve a setup which feels right for you.

Thanks; I'm trying to understand the difference and relationship between the following adjustments:

Tx Servo setup max travel = leave at 100% always.
Tx Swashplate = set so ail/ele is maximum +-8% when Tx DR is 100%.
3GX E.LIM and A.LIM endpoints setup - I understand this to be programming the 3GX with the servo travel that gives +-8%.

^^^ Am I right on this?

What I don't understand is where the 3GX End Point Setting fits into the equation. If I've told the 3GX what the E.LIM and A.LIM points are to achieve 8%, why is there another Elevator/Aileron End Point Setting?

                Hey.

                1. Yes, servo travel limits/ATV's leave at 100%. Some FBL units, such as the Vbar can be adjusted here during their setup, but not the ALign 3G or 3GX units.

                2. Yes, use swashplate mix values to set 8 degree's aileron and elevator swashplate movement. Once set do not adjust again.

                3. Yes, once point 2 is set to 8 degree's the DIR setup modes with E.Lim and A.Lim only teach the 3GX where this 8 degree's is on the travel scale.

So yes, you are correct in your understanding of these.

The other travel limits within the 3GX PC software are to stop any binding of the swashplate at the extremes of travel, having a small amount when combining both full collective travel and a full cyclic command is acceptable as you will never be at full collective and full cyclic at the same time, but you only want to see a very small amount. Hence these sliders are there to reduce the mechanical travel given by the 3GX.

What you need to remember is that the swashplate travel does not dictate the actual flip and roll rate, as it is the 3GX gyro's which sense and adjust the flip/roll rate to achieve the required degree per second rotation. The stick position input from transmitter to 3GX is requesting a specific roll/flip rate from the FBL system, the FBL system then throws in the required amount of cyclic to achieve the pilot commanded flip/roll rate.

So, A.LIM and E.LIM tell the 3GX the maximum roll rate that can ever be requested, and the End Point Setting tells the 3GX the maximum cyclic that it can execute?

End Point Setting is calculated only by the mechanical binding limits, and should not be used to set personal flight characteristics?

I hope I have this right now

                    Hey.

Sort off, all the E.Lim and A.Lim do is let the 3GX know at what point in the swashplates travel steps 8 degree's cyclic pitch is at. This is so it knows how to breakdown the degree's of pitch I think from neutral (0) to 8 degree's cyclic deflection of the main blades.

Yes, the end point sliders are set by observing the mechanical limits of the swashplate and adjusting these down to a level at which minimal or no binding is observed. Most helicopters will have some binding if the sticks are thrown into the corners, but there is no point in a flight at which this will happen and so you can leave a little binding at these extreme's of travel, but not a lot. It's difficult to describe in writing but you just need to look at your individual setup and put these travel sliders at a safe point.

You're getting it, the more you play with the system the more it becomes easier to understand.
