How many 3GX users? and setup

Well i thought i would give a a 3gx unit a try.
Been playing this eve but given up as i cannot seem to get it working right on the pitch.
So has any one got any tips on the set up, and do you really need to plug it into the laptop as it seems to serve no purpose as such for initial set up

I've recently put one on a T-rex 500, and it is excelent, it takes a few flights to get it tweaked, but once it is it is flawless.

What exactly is the problem on the pitch?

I'd say plugging it into the laptop between the first few flights is a must if you're having any issues, but not really for the initial setup, though it does have a step by step onscreen guide, but once you've been through that a few times you don't need to plug it in.

Where you select the model type (size, 250, 450, 500-600 and 700) in the software there is a selection for custom beside each option, and in that you can alter the individual gains (overall gain, stop gain, heading lock gain etc) for each axis.

On mine I had to decrease the tail heading lock gain to get rid of tail wag in the hover, and increase the elevator heading lock gain to get it flying right in FFF, otherwise it would start to tuck under abruptly.

If you hover the mouse over each slider marker it will tell you the effects of each adustment, so it's not really that hard to use it.

You can also alter the rates aswell which is better than doing it via the swash afr's as you will not lose resolution, as for pitch, you need to set that up as you normally would with the swash mix on the radio, if you are maxed out at 100% and still don't have enough then you need to use longer servo arms then back the swash off in the menu.

what swash mix did you have in your tx, it says to disable it?????? think this might be the issue, got way more neg than i have positive and the elevator starts to go the wrong way near the top??

I had the 120 degree CCPM mix.

It seems that it means to disable cyclic to throttle swash mix not swash type, if you have a 120 CCPM heli, set it as that in the radio and check it's working right, it's a bit misleading what it says in the software on this point, and Align should really really consider redoing that text, if you set the tx to "pure" (what it calls it in my tx) which is what disabling swash mix would mean to many people you'd have one servo for each function (mechanical mixing) like on many older heli's

When I did that the swash would not move right, each servo moved indepenantly, clearly wrong for that swash type, but if I leave it as 120 CCPM it behaves correctly.

If I where you I'd set the CCPM mix as before, if it's a 120 heli then set it to that in the radio, try to get each arm as close to 90 degrees at mid stick, and maybe chose a longer servo horn if you need to to get the pitch range, then do the initial setup again, that should get it somewhere close.....

Also set all your end points to 100/100 and subtrims to 0, only adjust these after the initial setup if needed.
