  • Align 3GX tested on Trex 500.

Had a try on Marks (igottomanyhelis) 500 3GX on Sunday. Compared to the original 3G it's a big improvement. We were using out of the box settings and it seemed to just work. Mark actually had some huge vibrations issues so we cut the headspeed to 80% and it still worked well. The elevator was a bit snappy and had a few wobbles but a lower gain will fix this. I had a quick go on it just to see what it felt like, nothing amazing as it's not my chopper so had to be a little more careful than I am with my 450......... One thing I did like was how quick it takes to initialise, about 3 seconds from plugging it in. It's almost too quick as you generally are moving the heli a bit when pluggin in.

Here is Marks first ever flight with the 3GX:

And then here is my quick go:

Have to say the tail was solid. Cyclics need some tweaking but a good start.

Saw my mate fly his new 600E yesterday with the 3GX fitted. One word describes it, Awesome.
Setup i believe was set to custom allowing modifications from the transmitter, but no "tweaking" had been done via a PC and the gains were as out of the box.
The tail was rock solid, pryo rate was super consistent and with 7mins hard 3D from the 12S setup flight times were also very impressive.
I believe "as good as a V Bar" was the comment.

Cool. Looking forward to seeing how this is with some unit/tx tweaks then.

Yep the piro consistency is extremely good,i wouldnt go as far as to say the unit is quite up with the V bar but its easily in that area of performance now so for sure down to pilot preference.

Personally i think Align can hold their heads up now along with the big players in the market.

I would say from 1 flight that it requires a little more setup than say the BeastX will but then performance may well be beyond beastx once fully tweaked. One thing I feel lets BeastX down is the inconsistent piro's. Seen them on every size heli going now.

I purchased the 3GX unit last week with a RJX head & fitted it to a trex 500. My question is the PC setup instructs you to set the cyclic up as 12 degrees which I can just about fly with this setup. Is this correct or should I have set it to the normal 8-9 degrees.

Mark has decided to sell the 3GX and move back to a beastx. From what I have felt the system has bags of potential but you will need quite a few flights to tweak each setting and get it just right. This will also need adjustments to be made on the computer which can be a pain.

Finally read throuh the online manual completly yesterday, so I will redo the setup on the PC software. The cable that comes with it is very short so I will pick a USB extentsion cable today.

Does any know if there is a bluetooth interface available yet?Click image for larger version
