Align 3gx V5

Ok finally tested V5 on my 450 Pro today and had some weird results.
The swash was tilting on its own during a gentle hover, mainly backwards on the elevator but also sideways on the aileron? I had to constantly correct the sticks just to keep it level.
Then I remembered that I forgot to put the 3gx pots at 12 o' clock before updating, doh! Put the gains much higher and it did improve but still felt weird and a bit mushy. I also had to put the tail gyro gain right up.
So my question is has anyone else who has actually flown V5 yet noticed that they have to raise all their gain values quite considerably or not? Cyclic and Tail Gyro?
Or maybe I just need to re flash V5 with the pots at 12 O'Clock and reset all the settings to default first?
I did redo DIR settings as I always do when upgrading and the gyro settings even though all my settings in the software did seem to remain the same after V4.1.
Thoughts?

Guys I've downloaded and installed V5 software on my lappy,
I connect my 3gx up to it and go for update, new box opens up
Select v5 update and open
Update screen pops up, and shows USB detected,
Press update button and all I get is connecting.......
How long should this take as I don't seem to get past this point.....

any my ideas as it's starting to pee me off.....

you sure you have your transmitter and model switched on?

connecting basically means that the dongle is connected, but it cant reach the helicopter

Yeah when I hit read it sees my settings so I am connected to the 3gx,

I have flown 2 batteries worth on V5 and found it ultra stable even in windy conditions just right for an old fart
like meself. Takes offs were smooth with no untoward tendency to topple and I held it on the ground at the point of
lift off for some time. Updating the firmware was simple and did not change any of my original settings. The only problem I encountered was
on a very ancient computer but that was quickly resolved. Looking forwards to more flights but of course the weather
put pay to that. So far so good. I have been flying helis for about 18months now so nothing to strenuous so maybe others
will have a different opinion.

Updated on about the tenth try after a good 3.5 hours of effort, man I felt like launching it,

but I do have an issue now where my gov light is green when in gyro pos 1, when in pos 2 and 3 its red so something screwy going on there, gov channel is INH in my radio,

Make sure you set the maximum and minimum positions of the throttle in DIR mode. Or do the whole DIR setup from the scratch if you didn't.

Hey.

Remember if using spektrum satellites connected direct to the 3GX, gyro gain defaults to AUX2 (channel 7). It sounds like your gyro gain menu is controlling channel 5 (GEAR) and not channel 7 (AUX2) which controls the gyro gain.

Make sure your govenor led is red in all flight modes, unless you're planning to use the govenor.
Also as above, one you have set your throttle ATV's (for Castle ESC's for example) to enter the 3GX throttle calibration as the 3GX uses this information to input the tail pre compensation on collective inputs whether you are using the govenor or not.

The tilting may be because you moved the heli / FBL unit slightly when entering DIR mode (easy to do when pressing the button), which I believe means the gyro calibration gets screwed up. If you just go into DIR again making sure not to move the heli or FBL unit at all, you don't have to change any settings, just enter DIR mode then come out again.

This is one of the reasons I dont want to re-set the DIR again when all the settings are already correct and working ok, fixing something that isn't broken is just an opportunity to screw things up.

Don't think that's the case. Gyro is disabled in dir mode. If you have your 3gx upside down on the bottom of the heli. You can't get into dir mode without moving it and it has never effected anything for me

shouldn't move it for five seconds or so when starting normally though

no gyro set to gear in main set up menu, as no other option, in gyro menu set to aux 2 and gyro sw, worked perfectly until I started trying to update it,

also Ian it was working properly before I started this process,

think I might rebind later see if that makes a diff, if not clear model memory and start again, not ideal but might have to.

on another note, hovered in garage an the bird feels alive, much more direct feeling of the swash and changes direction smoother and quicker and after setting tail up in rate mode it was crisp and tbh feels faster than it did before,

test flight tonight after rudder limit setup and rebind/rebuild of profile, need to get this gov light sorted but could fly in pos 2 on my gyro switch as that seems to be working OK

Don't think that's the case. Gyro is disabled in dir mode.

The Align set up instructions has a warning about this specifically saying that if the swash tilts after entering DIR to go through the DIR initiation process again. My assumption is that although the gyros are disabled once you are in DIR, when you actually enter DIR they go through a callibration process.

If the unit is inverted you can turn the heli over to get access, providing you dont move the unit diring the actual DIR initiation.
