I'm on finishing touches of my 600e pro heli & this afternoon thought id just check if 4.1 was out before going v4 & to my surprise it was v5 so downloaded firmware & also decided to try it out on my 250 & reloaded my saved parameters & test flown but not much difference noticed other than mostly tail control but then ive only done one lipo.
I've also noticed v5 does not default your parameters stored in 3gx nor dir but i would suggest going through dir setup on the safe side..
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

I've done 4 heli's now no probs just 2 more to do, I know its a pain but the way I've done it is to save your parameter settings & set 3gx parameters to default, redo new model within tx so 3gx sees them changes & will default to factory then do the firmware.

Once all done do the complete DIR setup again, be well worth it, I've had tail issue on my 250 on most version & have to say 3 flights & finger crossed v5 has solved.

Just updated the first of my three 3GX equipped helis (500Pro DFC). Contrary to the warning that all settings would go to default, my set up (made on v4.1) was retained after the update. All controls are working fine and limits are exactly as before update so I'm not inclined to re-set anything.

I'll report on how the other two go.

I'll try my other 3gx when I get home. But not sure why the first one doesn't like version 5. But flashes all the rest of the versions fine

I've now updated all my three 3GX helis, a 500Pro DFC, a 600Pro DFC and a Compass 7HV. All the updates went smoothly and all settings were fully retained after the update. Previous firmware version was 4.1 in each case.

Flight report will have to wait unfortunately as I'm away on business this afternoon.

I have just upgraded from 4.1 to V5.0 with no problems, still to be tested though!

When I did the v5.0 install on my three helis all settings were retained so no need for re-doing the dir setup.

                      Hey Buddy.

While it appears all settings are retained, I'd suggest going back through DIR mode for both the FBL settings and the tail gyro. The main flight settings are easy to check using the PC for any changes, but should the gyro senses be reverted back to default, this will make the next test flight interesting.
Once you've learnt the 3GX it only takes 5 minutes, as all the main transmitter settings are there, so it's good insurance to avoid possible problems.

I did the DIR setup again just in case, and must say the heli flies a lot better with 5.0. it was very windy today where I fly and the tail stays locked in. I used to have problems with pitch pumps, tail would always blow out but with new firmware it stays locked in.

update, seems that the profile on my dx9 was corrupt somehow.. it wouldn't initialise with the trex 250 profile with v5..

the 450 worked fine though. i swapped the satellite over to the 250 and it would work with the 450 profile, so then i thought it was the sat. but after a long time fiddling it didn't work.

so i made a new profile and it works with v5 just fine.. very very bizarre..

means i need to redo my swash calibration but i dont mind that.

putting this up incase anyone else gets this random weirdness when upgrading. (as i said, all other versions worked bar v5)

I've done my 4th heli & good advise from Ian as if you do skip dir as i've tested with this 4th one the parameters don't work as affective as when you default parameters prior to software update & then doing dir setup.
I'm now going to redo my 4th heli setup from scratch.

Thanks for the words of caution but I have checked travel limits, control and gyro response directions etc and all is fine. I don't see any advantage in re-setting to deafault only to then program back to same settings as I have already got programmed.Anyway if it all goes horribly wrong when I fly it you have my permission to say 'told you so'!Steve
