Whilst I don't agree with blatantly ripping off someone else's ideas and design, I do think main stream products are over priced. It's no wonder this market has emerged really.

Turnigy FBL controller
I'm going to try one on my 500 as I have robbed the Beastx off it for my 550.
Worth a punt on a cheap Heli.......? I'll let you know.

You can't compare the price of the Chinese clone with the original item. They don't have to invest years of manpower in R&D, no warranty, no QC, no calibration, use cheaper clone components rather than original parts, get subsidies from the Chinese government, they don't have to comply with EU manufacturing regulations, etc, etc.Originally posted by Planehazza View PostWhilst I don't agree with blatantly ripping off someone else's ideas and design, I do think main stream products are over priced. If the Chinese seem to get away with selling copies why do we bother designing new stuff? I can too sell you copies of the BeastX for $50 and I don't even need to know anything about programming and electronics. You just find one of the many companies in China that copy things and you get back ready products to sell. But if nobody had invested in making the original there wouldn't be anything to clone. Where will your hobby be without new innovation? Have you seen anything original that comes out of China and people say "wow, this thing rocks!" ?

Yeah, think I'm only hanging on to my 450 sports as the only one with a flybar partly because I actually like the way it flys with the GP750 gyro, and also because I can't be bothered to do a conversion !Sab Goblin 570

Lol - only have one flybarred model left - flew it today - time for it to go - it flew really bad compared to my FBL models & it used to be one of my favourites!Originally posted by Dan22 View PostI fly both FB & FBL but have to admit if the garage was on fire and i had to save one heli, it would be my fly barred Raptor E550 it's a pleasure to fly!

I'm one of the flybar die-hards. I know some of my helis will always stay flybarred and they're what I judge FBL controllers against. I was thinking to myself just the other day about how so many new helis out now are designed for FBL from the start, the flybar is becoming an endangered species.Originally posted by Dan22 View PostI fly both FB & FBL but have to admit if the garage was on fire and i had to save one heli, it would be my fly barred Raptor E550 it's a pleasure to fly!Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

Seems to be a few posts knocking about on this fubar, but everyone is being very careful not to link or direct people to software. Do we need to be careful on here?Cheers,

There is a lot more to a helicopter than a propeller on a stick. You can really say that the person who was "throwing a popcorn can lid" (using Frisbee inventor's own words) has invented future transportation via flying saucer. IMO what makes a helicopter tick is the swashplate and for me the person who invented the swashplate and had the idea of controlling blade pitch as it travels around is the person who solved the problem, thus the person who brought us the helicopter.Originally posted by AcidDrink View PostChinese invented helicopters. Just saying
My point was not specifically about flybar or flybarless. I was talking about innovation in areas of the hobby. Spektrum brought us the first 2.4GHz radios, the Chinese tapped in their success and made clone receivers. They copied ECSs, gyros, fbl, helicopters, you name it. It all these other companies weren't there would the Chinese ever given us 2.4GHz, decent gyros and fbl system or an ESC with a decent governor?Originally posted by p4ddy View PostStill using the fool proof flybar, that's why I still use flybars coz i'm a fool
And our hobby is just a drop in the ocean. Big companies close down in Europe and thousands of people lose their jobs because of anti-competitive practices from China. You may have heard during the last week or two about the EU proposing a 47% import duty on Chinese solar panels to even out competition or about the Chinese government falsely devaluing their currency to take business away from other economies. All they care about is their GDP. If thy were serious about intellectual property they wouldn't be exporting half the stuff they do now.
