Re: Whats the best setup/controller for a flybarless newcomer?
BeastX is incredibly easy to set up once you translate a couple of translation quirks in the manual. I didn't have to ask any questions to get mine set up. You don't need a computer to set it up.
V-Bar, once you get used to how the set up works is again incredibly easy. I had to ask a few questions to get mine set up properly as there are a couple of things that are not immediately obvious for a vbar noob like me! You do need a computer to set it up, or the Bluetooth adaptor and compatible device.
Once you have done a complete setup, both are very easy. BeastX, for me seemed of the two the more plug and play option. The Vbar appears to be endlessly adjustable!
BeastX you don't need anything other than the manual and a small screwdriver to be able to adjust at the field.
Vbar requires either a laptop, or a Bluetooth adaptor and compatible phone/tablet/laptop to be able to adjust at the field.
BeastX £150 ish
Vbar £280, +£30 for pro software update, + up to £100 for a bt module if you want/need.Synergy N5 -BeastX

If you're using spektrum then the AR7200BX is your best option for simplicity and price. Just that and a seperate satellite receiver if your above 450 size is all you need. The setup is very easy with no pc required and its easy to change settings. Unless your a 3D god you would be wasting money on a Vbar which is twice the price.TREX 700E DFC SK540

Big +1 on that. 7200bx would be ideal for you. Very capable unit indeed. It also feels better to me than the Beastx. Not sure if there is any technical reason for that, but it feels very locked in and the tail is great. It is more the tail that seems to perfom better above all else. Vbar is best, if you have the money be done with it and buy one. It will save you a lot of money in the future. But if funds are tight defo get the ar7200bxOriginally posted by ghost2212 View PostIf you're using spektrum then the AR7200BX is your best option for simplicity and price. Beast X all the way for a beginner. Particularly if you have a 500 size or less. 550 upwards would benefit from a VBar but it is a bit more involved. Best to get to grips with the Bx first I'd say

The best fbl controller for a beginner. None of them. Stick with a flybar and when you can fly then change over to a fbl unit. You can't get the best from a fbl unit without being able to fly.
Save yourself some money, you'll need it for spares and learn to fly without the electronics. When you can fly and you know how you like things to feel, and it is about personal feel then go for a box of tricks and you'll know how you want it to feel. Just my opinion mind
By the way both my machines are fbl, Beastx and V bar

I would have to disagree here, FBL has many advantages. Its more stable in the wind allowing you to fly in more adverse conditions if you so wish. It also has no stupid quirks like a flybar has which make it harder to learn new manouvers. This gives you more confidence to try new things. It also reduces the part count in the head reducing slop and things that can break in a crash.Originally posted by waveydavey View PostThe best fbl controller for a beginner. None of them. Okay. I said it was my opinion. I know what the advantages are, afterall until you've flown a 600 flybarred and then converted to fbl you have no idea what a fbl unit is doing for the machine.
My point is until you can fly you can't set a fbl unit up properly, fact! So for a beginner it's a waste of money and money far better spent on spares.

What stupid quirks? Not many flappypaddleless machines can do thisOriginally posted by ghost2212 View PostIt also has no stupid quirks like a flybar has which make it harder to learn new manouvers.

Is this to go with a new heli, or are you thinking of converting an existing heli?
I went with a 3GX because it came with the Align Super Combo kit. I figured it would be the cheapest and most convenient way to start, and then when I get more experience I'd know what to look for and what suits my style best. I didn't want to spend money on a vbar or helicommand until I was sure I would appreciate the difference.
I've flown the 3GX for about 30 flights and now I'm wanting to try a FB head, more out of curiosity than anything. I'm glad I started with a FBL though as crash costs are lower. I also think the FBL unit is more forgiving to bad setup as the computers compensate a lot, so that has helped me.

Totally agree with you there Dave, learn with the flybar first, it will force you into learning how to correct a moving heli then when you go fbl your flying will improve dramatically.Originally posted by waveydavey View PostThe best fbl controller for a beginner.
