  • Solved, Spirit WiFi won't connect

OK, I have read the manuals and cannot get this working.

I have an android phone. I connect the Wifi link to the Spirit (black edition) per the manual. In my phone I can see the Spirit wifi and it shows connected. (actually it says 'connected / no internet' )

But when I go into the Spirit app it will not connect.

There's a button for wifi networks and it only shows WIFI [192.168.4.1] that's the only device showing,

When I press the connect button, the 'WiFi State' says 'connecting' momentarily but then goes back to Disconnected.

      Trillian,

Sorry not to be able to answer your question - but your best bet is to go straight to the Spirit forum Spirit System • View forum - Support

Tomas (ZeXx86) is the owner / main developer for Spirit and is very responsive and helpful, I'm sure that he'll get you going quickly.

I used the wifi adapter a while back and it just worked - very simple - have you tried connecting to the wifi from your computer??

      Good luck,
      Mike

Hi Sheryl. I had the same issue but it was down to me having the TX and RX cable the wrong way round in the sys slot.
Also I noticed now and again my phone would default back to the household wifi now and again.

Thanks. I definitely have the cables the right way because it works on my laptop. So the problem is either interference on channel 1 (but I cannot see any way to change the channel) or something else specific to the Android phone.

What would actually be ideal is just if the phone could connect via the USB link because quite honestly it's a bit of a hassle having to connect the WiFi device to two different slots on the Spirit, whereas the USB just uses the sys port (I assume because the usb link doesn't need to get power from the Spirit).

.... Really makes me appreciate how easy and reliable the Spartan Datapod is...

Yeah, The Spartan Datapod is great! It's great tool to make fast setup changes and it's quicker to connect than any of the wireless solutions. It's a pity that we'll likely never see a VX2, A Vortex with Rescue would have covered all the bases for me.

OK, this is now sorted. What was happening is that, first of all, in the Spirit app the WiFi device tab showed the IP address - so I assumed it was getting the IP automatically. But this is not the case.

Secondly, in the phone WiFi menu it showed 'connected, no internet', but the phone was telling a lie, it was not connected. It requires a confirmation that you want to remain connected even though there is no internet. So after this was confirmed the Spirit app connected. So the phone makes the assumption that you would not want to connect to a network without internet access and so it disconnects for you

It now appears to work properly.
