  • Optifuel 20% SLV one girls view & hopes.

Ok here is where I start ,...... the 3D champs 2010 i managed to skive off work for Friday afternoon and spend the weekend at the 3D champs and top fun that was.

I had a couple of flights with rexy (my align 700 nitro) and really enjoyed myself i was then approched by Andy from optifuel who asked what fuel I used , that was an easy answer optifuel 20%, he told me I had an unusual flying style ( I call it constantly rolling & piroetting or C.R.A.P for short) he explained he was testing a new fuel and would I like to try some. well lets face it a free tank of fuel is about as close to sponsorship as I will ever get so with a slight blush and a smile I accepted, seconds later I was given a gallon of 20% SLV for FREE with the comment of "dont blame me if it breaks your engine" Hoping this was just a case of dry humor I fueld up.

now I cant flip around the sky inches off the floor but I work with engines all day long and I noticed an immediate improvement , the whole heli was alive , smoother and felt free and invigorated ,wow was i impressed
I told Andy there & then what I thought but he said i was to try a few tanks and let him know the results.
I haven't told him yet but having used the full gallon and enjoyed every tank I have only one wish,.....

Please , Please, PLEASE make this fuel its just unbelivable I just refuse to bellive a fuel could have such a difference but it REALLY can !

Andy & Optifuel you have got to make this fuel. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also gave a friend a tank to try and hopefully he will read this & post too.

sadly I now have none left but I may have to try 30% just to get the same confidence the 20% SLV gave me.

Maybe thats what Optifuel should call it "confidence canned"

    Thanks Andy for the oppertunity.

Like you, I don't need 30%, so 20%SLV would be just the ticket for me also. I would definitely buy that fuel

Your right Rachel, for most people the 30% SLV is not needed and with the extra nitro content expensive. the 20% SLV would be a cost affective fuel for the masses, I'm using the 30% SLV at the moment but when the 20% is available here i'll be getting it.

Just send Andy a email and ask him when you'll be able to get some more! Andrew [andy@processmeasurement.uk.com]

I can see a sponsorship deal coming on, Rachel.

That would be nice but,.... I speek as I find I was asked to try this fuel and report to Andy (Optifuel) , well as you can tell I was that impressed I have posted on my own , this may have upset Andy but this fuel needs to be made for us all , especially if it can be done at the same cost as the normal 20%.

            It really was that good

I suppose someone will get all tecky and go on about reduced oil content & stuff but my test is bassed on nothing more than gut feeling

            Happy flying all X Rachel

It was probably nothing but a devious ploy to get you over to 30% SLV... maybe 20% SLV will never be in production... maybe it was 30% really, and now its time you moved it up a notch...

Or more likely im jibbering and jealous of a girl who flies better :P

I have also tried a tank of 20 SLV last Sunday in my Trex 700.

Rachel brought the fuel down to the flying field so I thought I would give it ago. Why not I said ! she told me how fantastic this fuel was, and I was up for a test.

Well, I normally fly optifuel 20 as a benchmark of performance.

It looks the same as optifuel 20, red in colour, so I filled the tank up and soon got the heli into a idle on the bench, she fired up straight away with no dramas and then into a smother idle. That was a good sign straight from the off !!!

At the flight line got the head speed upto 1,800 rpm and put the heli into a hover, and I did notice a much smoother tail in a basic hover, the engine was running a noticeably more consistent then before . The heli had the same amount of smoke to my untrained eye. didn’t move the needles as I have CSM car smart.

Giving it a good fly around Flips and rolls you didn’t notice much difference in power, however saying that, the os91hz has oodles of power for that type of flying anyway.

Moving on to the more loaded manoeuvres , elevator and aileron tictocs ,there was something different the way the heli handled it. There was very slight increase in power but it just was visually smother than before, reduced tail shake and vibes .

Down side I never took a temp reading after the flight, so im unsure if it came down cooler.

                Conclusion.

A much better blend than the standard fuel, a very small increase in power but mainly a smother running engine.

A big thumbs up, its a nice step up in fuel technology. !!!!

Thanks for chance to test it Rachel !!

                  New 20% OPTI!

We are still running extended tests on 20% all looking good with no apparent bearing or wear issues, as yet we have not settled on oil %.

Overall power increased as noted but fuel in much more responsive to throttle, idles better and and revs more freely with much smoother transition. So pretty much like 30% just not as much brute power.

Backplate temps lower, head temp slightly higher and gas temps slightly down, more of the fuel is combusted and RPM trends are smoother, better economy too. Might even use it myself, I use OH2020 currently in everything!

Lots of other stuff going on in the 'skunk works' for 2011!!!!
