  • WHO SHOULD PAY

Heard a story at the club last night -
There's a guy new to the hobby but able to do a stable hover he's approached by another quite competent flier " that looks nice and steady can I have a go " he said .
The newby told him he was a Mode 1 flier knowing that most other people in the area fly mode 2 - and said it would not suite him.
The guys persists, allegedly, so the newby gives him the Tx !!!!
What happened next needs no telling save that the repair is priced conservatively at 160 .
Who should pay for the repair :?:

Assuming that it was pilot error and nothing mechanicle, then the persistant flier in my opinion should payup.

I personally think that no-one should ask to fly another persons heli.

I have a few that I would trust to fly mine, but I wouldn't persist to fly another members heli.

I think the rules on these should be very simple.

    1. You only fly another members heli if asked and only if asked.

Also the BMFA status in my opinion needs altering to include modes, thus I would be a Cert B2. If I wanted to get a B1 then I would have to loose my B status and goto A and start again to gain a B12 i.e. competent in both modes 1 & 2.
    Cheers

The persistant pilot should pay! Where was his own heli, if he wanted to fly so bad.

i agree, the persistant flyer should pay....tonight a member at our club who can fly really well was asking about my lama so i offered him a go of it,you guessed it he crashed it into the wall and broke it pretty bad,i didnt mind because its only a toy and can be replaced ,the guy was pretty concerned about it and i must have told him 20 times that i didnt care, but he was so apologetic.....i managed to replace all 4 rotors and with a bit of superglue the thing was flying again in less than 10 minutes which pleased him.......but i offered him a go, so the onus to fix was on me and not him.

Definately the persistent flyer but the owner may have to face the fact he will never see the money and just learn a lesson from the experience.

            Just out of interest.

Would anyone ask the persistent flyer (or anyone who wanted to fly) if they had BMFA insurance?

I would as a matter of course and would never fly a model without it, living in the land of litigation that we do.

            Cheers
