Out of interest, while on this subject, has anyone seen a Redline 53 with a gold/silver cooling head/heatsink as opposed to the red one? It looks identical, but a different colour...?

There is the standard TT50 which is silver, never seen a gold one

The standard TT 50 has a different design of head though, doesn't it? One that looks like all OS heads?
This head is the same design as the 53 red one, but gold and silver (painted)...

I'm going to need to get some photos of it I think..

Here is the engine head - red at one end, and a graduation into gold at the other. Looks like an annodised finish?
Could it be a custom head perhaps? The crankcase also appears to be darker than the other one I have?

I have one the same !
It started red and turned gold with over heating !
never damaged the engine ! just blew a plug !!
I bought the engine new !!

Wow - interesting info! It has always been like this since we got it in a heli, so perhaps last owner didn't tune it properly.
Weird how it's made such a good job of the colouring/pattern though - it looked to me like it was painted like that on purpose! But then I suppose I'm easy to fool.
                  Thanks

I've seen a black anodised 55 and matching powerboost pipe go to a bronze/gold colour. The bronze must be soemthing to do with the anodising process.

davey are all these TT53s the same mate or is it a bit hit & miss like the 1st Novarossi 57s to come out . The reason i ask is i have a 53 that came with my X50 thats never been started , should be ready to maiden next weekend & wondering whether to try & change the carb before i start or if its at least worth trying it before i try & source another carb & adaptor plate mate . Thanks for any help guys .

I think they're fine Rob, I struggled to tune mine consistently, you go searching for possible causes and you get to read possible mods for the carburation and I have the equipment to produce bits and pieces so in for a pennie in for a pound In fairness the OS mod did sort out the midrange and the size of the carb inlet on the OS is larger so the engine definitely produces a more consistent midrange, didn't notice too much on the top end though.

I think as I said in my post you have to want to do the mod but the engine itself is fine if you get one that tunes okay. My mate Chris has a super example which hasn't missed a beat since he put it in the heli. I think the early carbs also had issues with the barrel jambing due to wear, some got round it using push/pull but TT released a modified carb on later engines. You won't be dissapointed with the torque though it brings a smile to your face
