Excellent write up fella, will really help people.
I usually fill the groove for the ring with oil before refitting it just belt 'n' braces to stop it siezing.
Dunno if this is covered by filling the engine with oil?
:-)
D.......unless otherwise stated, all opinions are my own.

Yeah the piston had a good dosing with the oil before I fitted the ring! Ill just make sure I add that in now!!Originally posted by maddog7 View PostExcellent write up fella, will really help people.

Excellent rebuild thread kev can i suggest reposting your parts in a new thread with a title something like " Nitro rebuild" and then close it.+ get stuart to sticky it in the engine section?

Yes you can alter the ports to do pretty much what ever you want to do. But what you must realise is a helicopter engine isnt about power, its about torque. When you are flying you fly at pretty much a constant head speed and you want the engine to have enough grunt to maintain that headspeed. So you would need to shape the ports of the liner specifically to suit a torque application rather than a power application. My advice on this would be to teardrop the port opposite the exhaust and leave the two at front and rear. And inside the casings to polish the chanels up the sides of the liner where the fuel/air mixture runs.Originally posted by Delarado View PostReally nice thread, I have never done this before and hope I don't need to any time soon, but I read it anyway just so I know when the time comes.

Personally I think it would be a hell of a lot of work for maybe 0.2hp and probably a couple pounds per feet improvement. It can be done, but the cost and effort would out weigh the gains massivelySome say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. I serviced my engines the other day,i removed two grub screws, pulled them apart and wiped them with a cloth, brushed off the magnets with my trusty old toothbrush...couple of drops of scorpion oil,2 grub screws back in and jobs a goodun
No gudgeon pins no cooker no scotchbrite,no shampoo....simples.
And in all honesty never even needed to wash my hands afterwards.
Very good thread though mate
