Hi all,
I took up this hobby in August 2011 and started with a Raptor 30 with an OS 32 engine, which i still fly.
As my flying skills were progressing nicely i thought it would be a good idea to look at buying another heli with a bit more power.
I bought a Raptor 50 Titan kit complete with TT 50 Pro engine & muffler which is now built with full se upgrade, Savox servos and a 502 gyro.
On Monday as the weather was good, i tried to start the engine but it seemed to keep locking up, so i removed the plug to release the pressure, eventually it fired up but was running backwards which my 30 sometimes does.
I repeated the process but it still wouldn't start, it just kept getting tighter, by this time i realised something was wrong so removed the engine. When i took off the bottom plate there was iron filings everywhere, it seems crankshaft was loose and as i applied pressure from above with the starter, the conrod was riding out of it's Groove and wearing against the crankcase!
I have now replaced the engine with a Redline 53 which i have yet to fit, i will get around to stripping down the pro 50 sometime.
I'm sure the crankshaft was not loose when i installed the engine, what's bothering me is how did it happened?
I have rebuilt & repaired my Raptor 30 several times so thought nothing of building the titan.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Dan.
