  • TT56 Redline Review

Hi guys as said here is going to be a review of the TT56 redline engine from thunder tiger, I was using the TT53 redline but as it got a bit old and rusted i decided to buy a 56 reather than the repair the 53 as the 56 is at a very nice price and so are the spares.
Upon opening the box from fastlads i thought they sent me the wrong engine as the box was acctually a TT53 box, but after diving in really quick all was ok and it was the 56,
Ive included pics form opening the box and after installation in my 600le,
The engine comes nicly parkaged along with the carb, allen keys, mini spanner, glow plug, instructions and some decals.
The actual engine is not much diffrent to the 53, its got a bigger head and slightly bigger pistion and displacenent. But the biggest diffrence was the size of the carb, its alot bigger inner diameter which im sure will increase power or torque.
The machining quality is very good although some screws were a bit tight when screwing in.
You also get supplied with 2 head shims, i fitted the thinnest as im using 20% and there is a thicker one to use with 30%.
The engine accepted the clutch and fan with no fitting issues, the carb is screwed onto the engine with 2 bolts i used green threadlock, just dont over tighten these otherwise you might get a sticcky carb!!!
So thats mots of the assembly. Fitting the fan shround and engine into the heli was pretty straight forward although you need to unscrew the whole needle valve assembly to get the engine above the carbon bottom plate.
The engine fits very well in the 600 and i look forward to breaking in this engine and playing with it, i will update when i get it going and if i occur any problems, hopefully it will be an improvement over the TT53 which i found very good P.s im using the 56 with the standard 53 Highflow Pipe
    Cheers Chris

Does it have a mid adjuster, and is it hidden behind the throttle arm, as before, making it a t**t to change?

Pete, (raptorite) who runs phoenix uav centre has one in his X50 Nitro.
He's had it two weekends now & is struggling to get it tuned on 30% MT copta mix.
The engine just wont 4 stroke & he's had the needles out to 5 turns but still its running lean.
I had a 53 that used to do the very same there was no consistancy one minuet fine with power
next split second scalding hot backplate & dead stick. It would seem by going to the 56 platform TT havent improoved things at all.

I thought this would be the case as my tt53 was pretty rubbish with the stock carb but i was using mine with a OS50 carb and worked great so i will prob use the OS50 carb with the 56 but i will give the stock carb a go and see what heppens Let ya know how it goes.

Be interested in how you fitted that os carb mate.
IMHO its only ythe carb that lets this engine down if it had a better three needle jobbie on it
it would be a world beater.

Basically what i did was filed down the OS50 carb (the part the holds the carb into the engine) until it was 13mm in diameter, then get the engine and drill two 2.5mm holes either side of were the carb is inserted into the engine, then tap them out with a 3mm tap. (these are were 3mm grub screws are put in to hold the carb on). This is essentially all go need to do.

When i secrure the carb on i put a thin layer of 30min epoxy onto the carb so it creates an air tight seal then tighten up the 2 grub screws with threadlock, its worked very well and has had about 200 flights

If i do decide to put the os carb on my 56 i will do a review of how i did it so its more clear
