Anyone have any updates about this engine? Seems its been talked about for a few months now but I can't find a release date for it.

    Cheers

It wasn't a million years ago since we had 2 classes of nitro helis - 30s and 60s

Then 30s became 45s, became 50s, then 55s and now on the verge of 60s.

        And 60s became 70s, became 80s, became 90s, and now onto 105s and 120s.

But with all the engine developments, the airframes have stayed the same size. A Raptor 30 is still the same size as a Raptor 50. A Raptor 60 is the same size as a Raptor 90 is the same size as a Raptor 120.

Over the course of 10-15 years, we have seen engines double in size for a given airframe size.

Astonishing really. It's no wonder these machines go like stink compared to the olden days.

As for the YS60, if the trend with the OS105 and the YS120 is anything to go by, I suspect it will be factory tuned for 15-20% nitro. Putting a significantly bigger engine into an airframe of a fixed size is always going to use up the fuel in the fixed-size tank quicker, which is one of the reasons why the engine companies are now setting these big block motors up for 15% nitro. Make the engine run leaner and your YS120 will run for as long as a 90 on the same tank of fuel, or that's the theory anyway. So the overall compromise between less power from lower nitro from a bigger engine results in errrrrr, more power.

The other reason (apparently) is due to the high price of nitro in the far East, so the local Japanese flyers can't afford high nitro fuels anymore.

I have a YS56 and it goes great.
