  • OS 55 Rear bearing, ceramic or SS?

I have just found my stock OS bearing (replaced three tanks ago) has gone notchy. Im curious as to what others have used to replace them with, stock bearings, ceramic, or stainless steel.

Or maybe you opted for a different engine?

Defo SS, have just received mine from RCbearings.com in USA posted as toy spares so no import duty and about £8 per engine set if I recall correctly

He has an EBay Shop so really easy

how long in between flights was it sitting for any lenth of time as this can be bad for bearings if not stored properly , i always find that cheep bearings normaly last as long as the more expensive ones what is your normal end of day finnish as in do you run the engine dry or fill the tank etc as this can be important to bearing life aswell

I voted for ceramic because that is what I put in this time, but the next ones will be ss. I am really worried that they break inside the engine.

Well, from new i run about 2 gallons through the engine. my end of day proceedure was same as end of flight, simply trimmed the throttle down till engine cut, emptied tank, heli was kept in garage.

Since replacing bearings i pinched the pipe to stop the engine, refilled and drained tank to remove gasses, closed carb and kept heli indoors. My first two tanks were in another heli, engine was sat in a box over the cold spell, for maybe 6 weeks, then fitted to my knight.

Theres no option for " other " .. I used normal bearings from local place at about £6 each and found them to last same/longer than OS ones ... only difference is they come metal caged ... But then the upside is you hear them going a long time before they fall to bits ...

                  Neither any off your options....

At £1.25 per set (you need to ping the shield off though or £2 for unshielded set).. and they last longer than the original SKF bearings.. why would you go for stainless or ceramic at quadruple the price? Bearings are consumables anyways so I'm not fussed.. I bet I can get more gallons from my £10's worth of bearings compared to you

BTW - I voted for New Engine.. so you can pass your engine to Electricsceadu

right could be that the engine took in some moisture while sitting , personally i dont go through bearings mabe one set a season and i think that is down to how i stop at the end off the day what i do is stop as normal at the end of the flight close the carb fill the tank and use an exhaust bung thus stopping any moisture getting into the engine i dont run it dry or anything , and most at our club do the same and generally dont get bearing problems give that a go and see if it works for you

17-35-8 I believe???... I'm not 100% sure as my OS91 aint even had a drop go through it.. let alone replace the rear bearings I done a quick search you lazy git Nick and they dont seem to come up.. maybe you can give them a call to double check? If they do its going to be a bonus as its 1/15th of OS bearing prices!

Heres another place for bearings - Cheapest for 91 is £4.10 to the most expensive SKF ones at £7.11

Cool.. I'm not sure if the cheap Simply Bearings are the same as the RcBearings but the cheapo's from RcBearings do last alot longer than SKF ones for me .. and BTW my tuning/shut down routine did not change
