  • best / quietest pipe for YS91SR

I'm curious what the consensus is on the best pipes for the YS91SR.

My main two criteria are quietness and smooth power delivery.

...and ease of tuning, these are my three main criteria.

...and not too expensive. So those are my four main criteria

At the moment I have not yet run the engine but I have a pipe I can use for the moment that fits and I think it's an older Hatori but is not going to be one tuned for the YS I'm sure of that.

        946 for me as well.

Also heard the boys at Midland are running the GP pipes. Not run one myself though

'Any opinions on the Outrage pipe? (not sure what model).

I have only been using OS engines thusfar and have tried lots of pipes on .50 engines but the YS is new territory for me.

I think I'll try putting a wanted ad on the BMFA and see if anyone has a Hatori lying around collecting dust (probably not likely but ya never know).

Don't they fall apart quite easily! Never had one but seen quite a few threads where they did just fall apart, without a crash involved.

I have an Outrage pipe on an OS50 Hyper that is working very well. It sounds good, the power seems just as good as the MP2 and it is showing no signs of falling apart.

I don't think the Curtis pipes fit the YS. His pipes are for OS. there might be an adapter though?

the mp2 90 pipe has two different hole spacings

Yeah I actually have one on a YS91ST but the header part is on so tight I don't think it's coming off without employing military grade explosives.

For the type of performance I know you strive for, the Funtech HN 90 type F Muffler is most certainly the best choice -> Revolution Models Funtech Mufflers

Another very good choice is the Hatori 995 -> HATORI 995 91 SR, ST TUNED MUFFLER FOR F3C

Both these pipes are dedicated FAI stylie pipes so smooth power delivery and quietness are paramount at the expense of a smidge less power than you might get from a 3D pipe such as the Hatori 946.

I've got both of these - the 995 on my 91SR and the Funtech on my 91ST. Both have anti-vibration mounting systems with O rings and in my opinion, the Funtech is better than the 995.

Just to add, from experience, a 3D pipe will give you great top end power but is likely to hover like a bag of spanners - 3D pipes aren't designed for hovering, they're designed for full out POWER, and they are very good at what they do. The FAI pipes are much more suited to hovering and still work pretty well at the top end as well. If it's FAI stylie that you want, stear clear of 3D pipes would be my advice.

Thanks for that Steve. I was just reading about the Hatori 995 and apparently they have a new one called the 963 as well. I'll check out both the ones you mention.
