Is anyone using the above engine or had one. If so is it good and would you recommend it, thinking of a new engine and the Rossi is a good price compared to the YS and OS variant.

A friend of mine had one on his 600 and it is awesome!! Power is unbelievable. He only has the 1 needle carb, so I can imagine that the new 3 carb will be even better and it sound cool tooooooo !!

I too was looking at this engine instead of the OS55. I've had the OS55 before and the power was great but fancied one of these as only heard great things about the company.

Ive got a couple NR57's with some mileage on them. Power wise when you get it right it is exceptionial in a 50 class motor. Even off tune its very powerfull.

I never really liked the NR pipe as it prefers you to rev the motor highly and I like a more torquey pipe. The Outrage 56 pipe is very good and it allows you to spin 620's at 1950-2050 comfortably. It will turn them a lot faster too but not my choice of H/S.

The downside is both motors gave off HF vibes so bits tend to drop of your heli quite often!

One of mine has since expired after a piston broke where the pin locates the ring. It actually only reqiures a ring/piston as the liner was unmarked but NR wouldnt sell me these parts seperately although you could buy a combo package of ring/piston/liner or the same combo but with conrod included. You can also get a ring and liner seperately. BUT they wont sell a bare Piston. So this motor is in the drawer of no return.

The other motor is still going well but seems a bit tired now but it has seen some work.. As for rear brgs 150 flights or more. The internals are well made. The rear brg is patented and specific to NR using off-set races. (£25 a brg) The crank is a piece of art.

Something else is the 2 needle cargs had a plastic throttle arm that breaks very easily. Over travel on the throttle end points is enough or if it gets a bump in the car even.

Should you break it in flight the throttle is sprung to the full open position!

Due to the parts replacement issue I would prob try an Align/OS 55 now.

nookybear at our field has had two of them. One is busted and I think the other is still going. He's got the NR pipes on them. Both are the single needle type I think and both seem to be very powerful. He also commented on the tapered bearings and knife-edged con rod etc - apparently they are very nicely machined inside.

However, they seem to be just a bit rough around the edges and liable to breakages, so when the last one bust in flight, he replaced it with an OS55.

And guess what? The OS just works, no problems, no frills - it just works.

That's got to be worth a lot.

I have to say I rate the NR57 way above the OS55. A couple of gallons in (it doesn't get so much use these days) and it runs sweet on the Nova black pipe in the Rexy 600pro.

The only issue I has was mid range, never got it smooth, always had a bit of a kick which bugged the vbar no end. Dusted off an old OS 60k 3-needle carb and within half a tank eradicated the whole issue. Now runs clean and furious across the whole range (well the whole range of mostly flatout, anyway).

My one negative comment on it is that even shimmed out for 30% fuel it does tend to buzz quite a bit more than the OS. Fuel does ot foam in the tank though. And nothing has broken or fallen off (well not because of vibes anyway...)

                            cheers

I have or have had all three, I think the rossi is the most powerful, but I would agree with Barney about vibes, and the rossi pipe sounds tinny which makes the engine sound a bit harsh and lean even when its not, I'm learning to live with it though as the power is good and once you have it tuned you don't need to fiddle. I also agree about the YS, excellent engine and spares prices are good, unlike the OS because they take the p1$$ on spares. Rossi do too but I haven't needed any, and the engine has had some work now, 100 flights at least. My Align OS version died and I'm still waiting for the spares to be sorted, I won't have another. £80 for a head? WTF? When a YS 90 head is £22? YS or Rossi I say, OS never again.
