I'm usually pretty paranoid about my engines (it's a gasser flier thing)..but must have been asleep yesterday 'cos I missed the warning sign and my .91 seized.. which justified all the auto practices the week before - that bit was really nice and satisfying.
But I;d cooked it so hot it was still crackling for a solid 5 minutes.
OK so most of it is toast and a new one <sigh> ordered.
Obviouly the caerb can be salvaged, What I can see of the liner actually looks OK..but it might not once I've released the jammed piston.. that's got the classic hole and sintered edges. No obvious debris plugged into the cooling head..just scorched.
The question really is whether at that sort of heat the casting will have distorted or weakened, looks like a colour change on the back of the crank too. Is it worth cleaning up the cooling head, crank and tossing the bearings and salvaging the casting as spares??
I assume the conrod may have been stretched/stressed and is toast as well?
