  • OS5?5 YS56? Novarossi 57?

OS spares are just too expensive. My .50H has chewed itself up inside and I need a new engine for the 600N..

So which one to get? I'm inclined to the YS56 on spares costs alone..if so which cheapest muffler can i get away with and can i keep using my Century cool heli 30%.. it;s going good in the 700N and has been fine in the .50..don't want to stock 2 fuels and the stuff is a decent price.. about £20 for 4L by the case + £6 delivery

I'm never going to be a hardcore 3D flier..but I can happily bog any heli and I am trying..getting into the aileron tick-tocks and inverted flight now..and bursts of continuous flips

After owning the 55 and seeing the 56 and 57, I would get the YS without a doubt.

I've got a OS55 in my velocity and happy with it. But when I'm buying another one I would definitely consider a YS56.

not having used the ys or rossi no comment
but the os55 i've now got in my sdx 50 is fantastic, loads and loads and loads of power
            easy to tune
oh did i say loads of power

but if i was to pay full price for the 55/56 class motor (my os came s/h unused at a good price) then i'd look at a ys due to the spares pricing

YS 56 for me, works fine even if it's a bit thirsty. If I turn down my 700's headspeed to 1600 RPM, the YS 91 consumes only marginally more fuel than the 56

buy a 56 I had the 55 for no more than 10 flights and it was amazing on power even on run in. but sadly it hasnt had its 11th flight as its DEAD. I spent so long looking for a ys50st but they don't make them anymore and I couldnt strech the extra £30 for the 56 due to impatiance. WHAT A MISTAKE. I so wish I had saved money time and fuel by spending a little extra money.
My advice would be spend a little more and get what you want im currently in negotiations with my no1 indoors and supplier to upgrading to the 56. fingers crossed.

Does anyone know if the 56 is safe to use with the o.s powerboost pipe I heard the 56 is rather sensitive to back pressure.

..you still have to comment on the best cheap pipe option and fuel, folks...

I note that the align 55 (OS)..is sold by align to be used with the same pipe as their 50...

                          I own all 3:

The 56 gave good power at first but then started pulsing rich and lean, sent back to Probuild twice, they basically said it was my fuel and my pipe causing problems which was bs anyway it came back and worked well for a few flights then the conrod snapped, it is currently back with them.

The 55 took a bit longer to get on song, and by the time I did get it nice the rear bearing had already gone. Replaced it and it was lovely again for a few gallons then the piston disintegrated all around the edge above the ring, bits of it melted on to the head. Total repair bill would have been more than I paid for the engine but this one is currently with ripmax for "hopefully" a warranty repair.

I got the new Rossi 57 with the 3 needle carb last week, and it is powerful. But it does sound harsh, especially with their pipe which I ditched after 5 flights in fear that I would get a noise abatement order from the council! It is a vibratory engine if that's a word. You can see the canopy going bananas when you do anything that involves loading it up.

So you pay your money and take your choice. I loved my YS50 and I'm looking foward to getting a YS56 that plays nice.

At the price of these engines that's a scarey mix of stories. Re the YS and fuel type..again worrying...I doubt there's really much difference in modern heli fuels....or is there?

Anything in the YS manual stating special fuels?
