One more thing chaps, hopefully a silly one, but how can I tell this is a Hyper engine?
All it says is OS Max Sx, apart from the blue head is there anything else, or am I just being stupid ! ?

Hypers have the blue head and 60E carb, I'm sure it's a 60, but not so sure about the "E". The old SXH had a 40 carb.

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

              I have both.

If you want a good dollop of power, get the Redline.

If you want good reliability and trouble free running, get the OS.

Got the fan off and pulled out the crankshaft, on my first untrained look it seemed the bearings were ok, then I looked closely and could see most of the ball bearings were either worn, (lost pieces of the shining covering) or had chunks out of them...so I guess it was these that caused all this damage. Here are a few more pics......amazing what tiny pieces of metal can do isn't it!

The other damage you have within the engine is a classic sign of catastrophic bearing failure, not surprised at what you've found.

The closest analogy I've heard is that if the engine sounds like a waterfall then the rear bearings on the way out.

I've just had an offer from a far east contact he can ship an OS50 SXH for £109, inc shipping, just not sure if I should pay £10 more to buy one from here and have piece of mind of somewhere to come back to in case of any probs? I guess buying from a UK shop is the sensible thing to do !

I got my Redline from here and they were great.

Yep searched and found LMS to be the cheapest for the OS Hyper, but will go and buy from Brentford Model Shop in person for £2 more, as it's only 30 mins from me, so I can have it there and then! Hopefully tomorrow. Cheers.

One more thing folks, since I trashed my 600 blades around the 97 flight, (engine died on the 100th) I been running 620 blades I've had as spares, would you still suggest the OS is fine for these, or go with the TT53 for the more power?
Also, though now obvious the bearing was on it's last legs, and I should have changed it earlier, do you think the extra load of the bigger blades finished off the OS?

The Redline is a reliable and powerful engine for sure, but is just a little bit rough around the edges compared to the OS. Not quite as smooth and can raise some vibration issues in the airframe. For, me it would be the OS out of the two. But if you want the ultimate in throttle delivery and silky smoothness then get the YS50ST for a few extra quid. It's like having a stealth motor in your heli cos you can hardly hear the bleedin thing!
