I think the main problem with them was the throttle barrel scoring and getting sticky but I'm sure there has been a modified part for that now...

I love mine. Just keep an eye on the throttle barrel as even the newer version can get a bit sticky. Other than that bags of power and more torque than the Hyper. Doesn't need to scream like the Hyper and won't bog or fall off the pipe as easily (I notice with my not so good collective management!)

Fine so far, I think there is still a couple of clicks to turn on mine but it is now on the multigov pro carb adjuster, so the max temp I have seen out of it so far is 100 deg.

I was a little concerned about the main needle feeling a little wobbly when the ratchet isnt fitted.

Just to update this, my engine is running about 2 turns and 3 clicks out on the main. Power seems fine, but does die off on aileron rolls, tic tocs are fine how ever.

The head temperature seems very low, I am running a multigov pro on there and the max temperature I have seen the head at is 98 degrees. The needle seems to be permanently trying to lean the engine. This is with both Magnum 20 and Rapicon 30.

I am generally very happy with this engine, it has been a long time (read over a year) since I have had a heli I can just take to the field and fly! Since I stripped the clutch and engine out and re fitted it, I have not had any reverse running which I was having every time I started a few weeks ago.

One thing I did notice is the carb has stuck twice, both on the bench/field pits though not noticably in flight.

A quick question, following some threads on RR, the US appears to get a set of shims for the head with their's, but non were supplied in my box (I think I got a spare throttle arm and isolation gasket). Anyone in the UK recieved these or using shims? Apparently they apply to higher nitro contents like 30%.

              The postman...sorry.

As per other posts initial batches had some engines suffering from carbs sticking. Recent batches have been said to have resolved this. Limited quantities have been available recently so whether you got an improved one would need to checked.

Have one fitted to my knight 3d, do have to say it is not as consistant as my OS hyper in the trex but is ok, i have the later version with the modified carb but it seems to gradually lose power as the tank lowers, not by a great deal but noticable, and enough to have to calm it down a bit later in the flight

Mine came from Leeds Model shop and it does have the shims in the box.

                  Cheers

I've not found the engine leaning out at the end of a flight nor any loss in power. What I have found is the age old method of feeling the backplate doesn't seem to apply with this engine. If I lean it out on the main needle to get the backplate warm then I see a loss of power. I find it runs best with a near cold backplate and what seems slightly rich.

Plenty more testing to be done when the spring arrives!!!

When you put the carb on do the screws up evenly and not overly tight. It was the over-doing the screws or doing one up tight first before the other I believe caused most problems.

It took me quite a while to get mine tuned correctly. If the setting of the new carb hasn't changed compared to the original one you will find the mixture adjustment very sensitive.
