  • Wot No Fuel Magnet....

Just been out (and fortunately back again before the rain....) with my 600N, having just rebuilt the Hyper following holing the piston a few weeks ago. The lean running, that caused the holed piston, I assumed was down to me being over zealous with leaning it out...

Druing the rebuild I cleaned out the fuel filter as there was some orange gunk in there..... Penny didn't drop....

So I started her up today, well rich and was gentling flying about when the motor stopped...auto'd down......more orange gunk in the filter....Penny still hadn't dropped

Clean out again and get her airborne then the tell tale (at least I can recognise it now!) sound of leaning out....land....more gunk...penny finally drops

Fuel Magnet had disintegrated completely in the tank. There was no foam on the holder at all and a load of orange foamy gunk in the bottom of the tank

So now I have swilled out the tank I figure that the original metal clunk can go back in, since I have a header on the 600.

My worry now is I do not have a header on the 700 (but have a magnet fitted) so will need to keep a good eye on the fuel filter on this one!

Bearing in mind the access problems with the 700 clunks how often to guys check the state of their 'magnets?

the fuel magnet will always suffer on exhaust pressure systems.
The trick is to know that its the gasses not the fuel that causes more damage after every flight re-fill the tank to push the gasses out. you can then empty the fuel out again or as I do leave it in there until the next time I fly (sometimes weeks)

OOOO bugger!! Didnt know ud killed the hyper jez??? Have it as a key ring like e to remind me of my state of affairs "piston broke!!". Why dont you try the os bubble less clunk?? Ive neverbeen keen on the magnet idea as the exhaust gasses destroy the foam in short order!!

Btw i couldnt bearse flying today to cold, windy, wet and went back sleep instead

I normally leave enough fuel in to cover the element, though TBH I have not been religious about filling first to push out the gasses. I might give that OS Bubbles clunk a go on the 700
