  • How tight is yours?

No, I haven't got the "wrong" forum

I have to replace the bearing in the Hyper from the Knight (again ). This one hasn't lasted five minutes - probably a gallon maybe - no more than 2.

I seem to remember when fitting the bearing to the crank that it was an easy fit. Does this sound normal or does everyone else have to freeze one bit / heat the other to get it to fit?

    Thanks,
    Lee

replaced mine recently with an OS one, and it slid on easily without any heating/freezing.
My last bearing was a different brand (can't recall what) and that needed a bit of help.

I used to do mine warm and then screw the fan on to pull it on, then came out of the dark ages and went electric

I've always heated the crank case and stuck the bearings in the freezer.

          Cheers,

Hmmm, don't think it's running rich.
I went to fly it Sunday and it was making a fair noise when idling and you could still hear it in flight
I landed pretty quick a put it back in the car

As for changing fuel, I'm tempted with Rapicon but I have a fair bit of Maggy left in the shed after the last Magnum crisis

Sometimes my bearing s go on fairly easy. This does happen sometimes anyway. Most of the time you hope to get anything between 3-5 gallons, sometimes more. However very occasionally I've ended up with a couple of gallons..... which is obviously not cool.

Try another bearing and see how long you get out of that one, it may jest be an exception.

hot crankcase and tap it so the old bearing falls out.
Then the new brearings drop in at room temp.
wait a minute and the bearings are warmed up in the still warm crank case and the crank shaft pushes in by hand, or its pulled in by fitting the fan.

I hope I don't do a bearing in 2 gallons. I get a lot more than that running 20% magnum maybe 10 gallons or more. I've only had one so far that actually sounded rough, the others just got changed because I had the motor out and they had run a fair bit.

I guess things are going to change as I fly harder.

where do you bulk buy your bearings from richie?

                    Thanks for the replies
I was thinking if it was an easy fit that the crank may have been spinning inside the inner race maybe?
I guess the proof will be taking it apart and seeing if the crank is worn where the bearing has been spinning on it or if the bearing has just died early.
                    Cheers, Lee.
