Could that bit bend the pin on the crank shaft that the piston arm attaches to? I have a 90 size tool that works perfectly on the ys91 but it won't fit the 105 due to the shoulder on the piston.
If you have a tool have you tried it at TDC instead, that also works.

Hi mate,
I have a tool very similar to that. I have two problems: at BDC, it won't fit in due the piston striking it, and at TDC the bit where it pivots on the crank won't fit in the tool. I'm going to try modifying the tool slightly, but I'm worried I'll warp the piston.
I use this one and it works on 105, I have a 50/90 and it doesn't. I tend to do it at TDC but should also work at BDC. Sounds like if you open yours up a bit at the top it should be fine. If you struggle borrow mine and send it back when you are done.

Why and how could you apply so much force that you would bend a cast iron pin 5mm long and 4mm in diameter. A crank lock works the same way apart from you are restraining it on 2 sides.
But maj is right better to use the right tool

When there is no crank locking tool and you really want to play safe then the best way is to fill the chamber with cord down the plughole... a good even distribution of pressure over the piston top compared to piston locks or plastic inserts through the exhaust port.
My 91 tool like the one Mj pictured above for me works on a 91, 105 and 120 with the piston BDC. The shamfered end makes it miss the piston, have a smaller version for my 55.
Cannot bring myself to shove a toothbrush in my engines although I know that it works fine, if there is a proper tool for the job then buy it imo!
