I missed half the conversation cos there's no internet here. Oh I, of coarse it is Hay-on-wye after all!

    Moan over now

There are a few different technics to reassembling piston, ring and lining. Parts on order and will get back to you all.
    Thanks again.

New piston and ring came today and I managed to get in the shed tonight and have another go at it.

      Job done.

I took the piston retainer pin clips out, or should I say "they made some good Rica shay sounds around the shed" just as well I bought some new ones!
Changed the piston over. I did notice the pin inside the groove on the old piston was worn compared to the new one and once inside the lining, the open end of the ring would not spin past the pin like the old one did. Needed changing.

Popped it all back together putting the piston in the crank case first at TDC, then the lining over the top with the piston now at BDC. Pushed the piston up inside the lining and that was it. I did have ago at doing it the other way but couldn't do it. Too fiddly for me. I did also make sure that the open ends of the ring lined up at the right place inside the lining to make sure the end of the ring didn't catch on any of the ports.

Start her up tomorrow and see how she goes..

      Thanks again guys.
      Great help

Hi Guys, Well 'I know it's been a while but I managed to get out for an hour this afternoon after work and took the Raptor 50 out for her first proper fly after the engine re-build. One word. AWESOME. I love it, she looks and sounds fantastic. I did loads of 8s, circles, dives and oh yes, the pitch pumps just to check the high end. I did a bit of tuning, bit rich to start off and after a full tank of juice I landed and checked the temp of the back plate on the engine and kept my finger on it for ages. Bearing in mind it was only 5 degs outside Brrrrrr. So I think it is still a little on the rich side but not to worried just yet cos I got a new piston and ring in there. I only used one tank full cos I forgot to take my battery checker out with me, so I thought I'd better not chance it as I'm not sure how quick the voltage drops. Big smiles here. Thanks for your help.

You may be fitting the piston in back to front, the join in the ring must line up and seat on the pin as you have already found out but the joint has to be opposite the exhaust port or it will snag as you are finding.

Hi I just finished fitting new piston into my redline 53 couldn't fit into the liner first not enough space to get the conrod onto the crank so had to fit it and fit liner after ,I found the worse part was getting that poxy circlip into the piston was on my hands and knees once to look for it after it pinged off but found it after losing the one that came out you would think they would give you two in a new packet just in case, any way all done ready to go tomorrow.
