The motors are still in customs somewhere as are the ultra fast ESC's, hopefully any day now. But having said that I've re-configured the Openpilot for 250hz output and calibrated the throttle range individually for the hobby king ESC. My god is there nothing OpenPilot can't do !!!

As we play more its evident that the OpenPilot is massively configurable, that in itself is a major plus for this unit, at the same time it could be its downfall in the hobby market. As a professional piece of kit this unit is STUNNING !

I'm tempted to take it to eight rotors and see what it can really do.

Laurence - The carbon is 2mm woven at both 90 degrees and 45 degrees. Dave can explain better but it gives very strong and rigid centre section and prevents any flex in the arms. I've really got to say its a pleasure to work with NHP on this project, the quality in the carbon materials and cuts are fantastic - AND there's no nuts required - all bolts screw directly into the 3mm inserts fixed in the carbon. That alone makes the build so perfectly simple.

i think that i read that the openpilot board will go to 400mhz and that the turnigy plush esc will work at this speed so i have got 4 and 4 motors on the way

An octo would be good but the CC (Openpilot Copter Control) board only has 6 headers so it can only do 2 motors on each arm or a hex configuration

                Hi Paul,

When I said OpenPilot was configurable - well take a look at this....

Crazy isn't it ? I'll need another board thought because it requires a small amount of soldering.

You won't go wrong with the Turnigy Plush - which motors/rotor did you choose ?

OpenPilot will run an output up to 500hz but there's little point going that far. Even at 400 you are updating the rotor speed at approximately every 1/3 of a revolution.

                      Dear Laurence,

I am David Whitney from NHP and I have been working with Mark Slater on the quad design from carbon sheet.
I am reading the thread with interest and have picked up on your comment about the carbon sheet, it is our standard 2mm sheet that I use to make helicopter frames and fins. The lay up is twill weave on the surface at 0/90 degrees, underneath are 2 layers of unidirectional carbon at
+/- 45 degrees, the centre of the sheet is bulked out with woven glass to make the sheet 2mm thickness. The sheet is pressed with 80 tons of pressure at 120 C for 1 hour this gives a well consolidated sheet with good stiffness.
I use glass in the middle because it gives the sheet more durability in a hard impact and adds very little weight to the overall sheet.

I am interested in any ideas that people have to improve and develop the design as I have not done much flying with quads and am always looking to make improvements. The next stage is to develop a camera mount as I want to take some aerial photos.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts

                      Kind regards

                      David.

                        Welcome to the forum Dave.
One Suggestion i have is when your thinking of a camera mount then you would need to bring in the legs more to the middle, going off the size of the quad it would be capable of lifting a big DSLR so would need strong legs to withstand hard landings and protect the camera

                          Dear Paul,

Thank you for the welcoming e-mail. I think your right the legs would have to be quite strong and nearer the centre of the model. I was planning to lift my small Panasinic compact camera as I would not want to break anything too expensive, I only want to take pictures of my house as I have never seen it from above.
I will probably cad a large and a small version of the mount to meet all requirements.

                          Kind regards

                          David
