  • X650 Quadcopter

    Anyone had any experience wth one of these, I need help in getting the flight controller linked up to the pc as I'm trying to upgrade the firmware?

    Got it connected and disconnect the link from the flight controller end when instructed, hit next and the message "you have 60 sec to connect" again but when you reconnect the device the countdown continues and then times out - help !

    This may help you, the sound is not very good, and it is 24 mins long
    but tells you about errors etc. This is for the older config software.

    If you are trying to upgrade to the 1.32 firmware on a X650 with the new Xaircraft Center, I would leave it for now, until they produce some PID's for that model.

    They seem to be concentrating on the new X650V-4, X650V-8 and X450pro at the moment

        Mine already has the latest software so i've not had to update mine yet.

          Thanks Dave it helped alot, and have now upgraded to the 1.31 firmware for the Flight Controller and 1.2 for the AHRS as per the video, however when it connects, which is fine, I get no green bars in the control boxes, I'm sure they were there before, do I need the main battery connected and the TX swithced on, I did'nt think so?

            Just sussed it, you don't have to have the main battery plugged in but the TX has to be on, which makes sense really.....doh.

            Now to mess around with the GPS unit.....anyone installed one?

              Yes the TX, needs to be on

              Be careful not using the main battery, otherwise your USB port has the ability to also power up the motors, RX and all the electronics, a few people have managed to fry their laptop USB.

              GPS is not working that well at the moment, they are meant to be releasing new firmware soon, and some anti-interfenence copper tape for the inside of the top cover.

              Try and mount the GPS antenna, as far away as possible from electronics, mine is on one of the front booms.

              RTH (Return to home) feature is a bit scary (also being worked on) mine came back like a rocket, without much accuracy

                They wouldn't even sell me the GPS & Compass It's something i really want to get set up on mine Any idea when the updates will be available, and what is actually wrong/not good with the system now?

                  As I'm trying to set this up for someone whose not computer oriented, as recommend above I think I'll leave the GPS & Compass unit for now. There is no instructions with it either but have managed to work out where it all connects, where would I check for the latest GPS & Compass firmware and what is the current dodgy versions please?

                    At the moment, the position of the mounting of both GPS module and the GPS antenna seems to be greatly affected by interference from the rest of the electronics fitted, this in turn is creating large inaccuracies for the position hold to function as it should.

                    The position hold on mine is OK for about 30 seconds, and then wanders off in an ever increasing circle.

                    Altitude hold is not that bad for me, but some others have had varying results.

                    The compass, if just used for flying in Carefree mode has performed quite well, it is a strange way of flying after Heli's, and I only use it if I loose orientation at a far away distance, and then switch if off when the quad is back in sight.

                    I did manage to fly it back in carefree once over my head, turned my body to face it, but it became totally lost my brain to reverse everything, and hit the deck, no damage though

                    The new updates for the GPS shielding, and an optional upgrade to a slightly better antenna have been listed on their Chinese forum earlier today, this is for mainland China only, not sure when the rest of the world will get it, soon I hope.

                    I am sure it will get sorted, but they have been promising it for the last few months, and have spent time on their new models instead, not that they have a working GPS yet either.

                      Cheers Dave, so the compass is working from what you say, the main problem is loosing orientation and the option to flick a switch to fly back safely would be great, Where do you get your Xcopter parts from?

                        Possibly a good idea to leave it for now

                        It all gets a bit confusing here ....

                        If the software you used for configaration looked like the video I posted, then I believe that this is the last way you have to upgrade with that version, they have completely rewritten the software and called it XAircraft center, this at the moment has no Config/PID setting for the old X650 so we will have to wait.

                        What happens is the old software, downloads the new sofware as an update, but installs itself as
                        XAircraft Center, and also leaves the XAircraft Configartion sotware as well. At the moment I would only use the old sofware for this craft.

                        Just to confuse things even more, they *rsed up when compiling the latest software, and the auto download software only works with Windows OS that were not 64 bit, there is another manual download link for the 64 bit versions.
