  • DJI or Align MR25

Thought about giving the FPV circuit a try as an extra not at the expense of my helis lol?

But not to sure about getting a secondhand DJI Phantom with tx etc or the new Align MR25 (having second thoughts about this one due to the binding issues with Spektrum in a few other posts)

Not having any of these before what the pro and cons?

Im new to this too and I'm in the process of building a Scorpion 280 FPV Racer, I looked at the Align MR25 and to me it just looks cheap and plastic plus Im very aware of Aligns electrics as there not the best ! I would go for a DJI Phantom you limited to what you can do with it , I had a DJI 550 Flame wheel and sold it within a month . But thats just my opinion .

      Two opposites there really.

Of the two you list, if you want to race then only the MR25 is suitable.

If you want to fly FPV, shoot video and have a good range then it is the DJI Phantom.

Probably need to think a bit more about what you want to do with it before making a decision...

That's the problem, I just fancy giving FPV a try, ive been offered a DJI which is at the same money as the Align, im a circuit plodder with my helis, so no high speed aerobatics etc, but if I went down the racer route would that help me progress with my heli or doi just play safe lol

I wouldn't look to FPV racing to help you progress on the heli, two very different skills and view perspectives.

Have a think about what you can do most often with the quad.

For example do you know a bunch of other FPV racers you can join and go have fun racing together or is it more likely you'll be out flying in places where you can get some great video shots from the air/

Does the challenge of high speed racing at low altitude interest you, or perhaps you have a leaning towards shooting a few videos from altitude of interesting countryside or perhaps even getting into the professional side of aerial video eventually...

I hadn't thought of it like that, its solely for the fun value and the longer fly times, I will prob never use the video systems to their full extent. I think its just because its cheap so give it a try and it may boost my confidence with the chance of flying in more confined spaces with a cheaper repair bill if it goes wrong.

In reality I will prob get bored which either way I go, but I may be pleasantly surprised and keep it going

Generally, FPV racing isn't about long flight times, so that would push you towards the Phantom, but I would seriously expect you to get bored rather quickly if aerial video has little interest for you.
