I cant see very much coming from this. Its all very non-specific and doesnt really cover the wide variety of 'drones' that are out there.

Personally I dont think it will be long before 'they' have to start bringing back in the use of the word model, rather than unmanned aerial vehicle or drone to describe those craft that in the grand scheme of things are relatively inert.

According to the daily mail, tragically a girl was killed by an RC plane today, and this is fortunately a very rare event. Very few people have been killed or injured by multi-rotors. 5 people or thereabouts will have died today on British roads, and an incredible 1400 women will die during childbirth. I know that people are getting their knickers in a twist over this one way or another, but its probably time we got a bit of perspective on how small our 'big' problem really is.

and though still raises that much attention that its discussed on european levels to discuss how to regulate them ... for some its indeed a "bigger" problem than for us pilots ...

I think you may find that actually occurred in 2003, the Daily Mail website unfortunately labels everything with the current date ...

The problem is that people see the car travel as a necessity and due to the regular accidents they have accepted that this is something that happens to the unfortunate few. However, when it comes to models they see it as our enjoyment being a risk to them; and I don't blame them... when I am relaxed walking in the town centre I don't really want to have a muppet that just bought a DJI Phantom without prior RC experience flying over my head.

Hi im just getting back in to the hobby after 4 years, and im building a quadcopter (drone) but will only be flying it by LOS, I might put a camera on just for flight watch back but no FPV capabilities. I take it normal bmfa, caa heli rules apply to quadcopters without FPV capabilities?

No Aarron with a camera fitted it becomes a UAV however LOS with no camera and its a flying model I believe.

Ok thanks, so as long as I leave the camera off and fly by LOS and stick to normal model flying rules theres no issue with multirotors.

Oh man this is turning into a nightmare - as part of my prep work for BNUC I decided to study all the ANO and CAP related to model flight. What a bloody mine field !!!

Stu - one of the documents in your opening post is now out of date, the FPV weight limit is now 3.5Kg with batteries for all vehicles (quads, planes, helis if you want)

If you are not flying FPV and takeoff weight is less than 7Kg then do what you want within line of sight (and within reason of responsible flight)
Over 7Kg then you are limited to 400 feet and 500 meters out and must not fly in class a,b,c or D airspace

Got a camera on there ? - it gets worse at this point. Basically fly in the middle of an empty field and you should be ok. Anywhere else is a minefield of ANO and privacy laws.

Doing any of this for money ? - BIG BIG minefield - Really don't bother - go and enjoy it instead.
