  • Check list !

Right I've been collecting bits and bobs to build my first quadcopter with the intentions of getting some skill and doing some fpv.

    I've got some parts so far this is what I have got ;

4 x brushless 930kv motors. Chinese, cheap, I'm still learning be nice

4x 30a Afro ESC. Being designed around quadcopter usage I thought it was a good choice.

Kk control board the LCD one lol

AR6200 reciever and the satellite bit (dx6i TX) I know about the range issues I won't be going far while I'm trying to learn)

Tarot firefly 450 frame. Seems heavy but have nothing to compare to so I can't judge yet.

I still haven't purchased a battery, not sure what I will need yet. Suggestions ?

What I would like to know is there anything else I need to get to help me learn better faster etc ?

Dji naza is out of the price range ATM 😭

    Cheers,

Make sure the KK2 board has at least V1.5 firmaware on it, or the latest V1.6, if it's not up to at least V1'5 you need to flash it with the later firmware
Reason ?..... V1,5 is the first firmware release that the auto-level actually works on !

Get the right sizeprops for your motor/frame combination and make sure you balance all the props before flying, poorly balanced props will have a bad affect on the KK2 flight controller

Good luck, the KK2 board with self levelling ative is a sweet flight controller to learn on.

Thank you very much ! I've ordered 10x4.5 as the frame said they fitted and the motors work with them.

Thanks about the firmware information I hadn't looked into that, will have to check.

So I should have a relatively decent quad to start out with

      Cheers,

Yes it will be a good first step into quads.

When you get everything installed just make sure you follow the instructions for the KK2 board (plenty of set up info on the internet and Youtube)
Make sure you select the correct motor layout option in the menu
make sure motors are spinning the correct rotation direction for each arm (it shows which direction on the motor layout pic that comes up on the LCD menu screen) DO THIS WITH PROPS REMOVED

I suspect a lot of first time lift off problems are due to the either a motor turning the wrong way, a motor connected to the wrong motor connection on the KK2, or wrong direction prop fitted to a motor.

If you double check everything is sweet with the motor rotation/position on quad/correct prop on each arm then it's going to go fine.

Yeah I've seen a few videos about ensuring the motors are spinning in the correct directions. The only this I haven't seen much about on YouTube is the Afro ESC. Hopefully the manual will provide me with everything I need to know.

Will need to run through the kk set up once I've got it all installed.

Any recommendations on the battery side of things. What size would I be looking at ?

          Cheers,

As far as lipo goes I'd say use whatever you have for your first few test hovers in the garden, even if it means just sticking a 3S 2200 on it (you won't get much hover time though) !

I use different ones on mine, usually 3S 4000 or 3S 5000, but I''ve used a 3S 2200 for a quick check in the garden.
