Camera Gimbal Stabilisation - the Alex Mos solution

Hey Simon. Does mine have the latest FW? I think you said it had. I haven't fired mine up just yet. Waiting for the gimbal to come.

Ordered my ALEXMOS board last week from Simon, received withing two days, when I fired it up I had a problem but Simon sent me a new one no questions asked. That one arrived the day after I returned the faulty one. I must say it is the best service I have had for a long long time. The software worked very well and bluetooth connection was a breeze. Sadly still waiting on motors (Simon doesn't sell them yet) otherwise am ready to test. Can't wait to try it out as soon as possible.
Will update soon with videos from the WW1 airfield that I have permission to film at...

I'm very interested to hear of your experiences getting this up and running.

I'm still waiting for the motors to arrive. I got the board up and running very quickly, as well as the bluetooth connection. My gimbal is complete apart from the motors but I will update here soon. I've played with the waypoint system and had good success with that too, have set and flown four or five practice missions at my local site. Very weird hitting the GO button for the first time but no problems, even auto landed as promised. I did a long range ' visual' flight to make sure I could fly it at distance- turns out I can. Unstabilised footage will be posted here as soon as I work out how.

Finally got my motors but they were worth the wait. Am trying setup with a heavy camera( Panasonic FC 30) and all going ok. Got the roll functioning well, bit more dificult with pitch but almost there. Am picking up new camera tomorrow. ( Canon 100D) so will have a different profile for that.
My current problem is after having updated to firmware 2_2b, which itself proved a learning curve, everything connects but when I calibrate the accelerometer it doesn't write it to the board for some reason. I tried a different sensor with the same result. I went baack to firmware 2.1 and it calibrates fine. Back to 2_2b and although I can write pids and stuff the message " accelerometer not calibrated" won't go away. Anybody know how to solve this?
My trial film shoot has been cancelled so the rush is off now.
                Thanks

UPDATE: Got the gimbal finally assembled, set up PID's after a good few hours of trial and error. Looked good on the bench so went to test fly today. It was very windy but the results aren't bad. The gimbal is mounted on plates with 16 'airball' type dampers but on initial flights this started resonating and caused low frequency wobble. After removing any movement between the plates using cable ties through the dampers the next flight was much better, although some edge wobble is evident in places. Not sure if that is the PID's or just that it was turbulent around the buildings and the system couldn't cope. You can see the difference about half way through. I filmed the Canon and gimbal using my Panasonic XS100, just so that I could see what was happening in flight.
I haven't linked the Wookong to the Alexmos board yet, so that may improve things too.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nt3wxoiyjc...bal%20Test.mpg Sound is bad but there are two audio tracks playing, one from each camera. I'm satisfied with the initial results, although the video linked here is not full HD, due to my editing software being a bit old.

                    We have been busy!

The latest V3 alexmos board is at its prototype stage - Steve, our tech guru, has been working closely with the Russian designers to help them work through the new board. We have added additional functionality and of course it now incorporates all three axis on one board.

Take a look here for some details: Brushless Products

One of the prototype boards will go out to Russia for review and we will be conducting some tests here as well. Once I'm happy with the results I'll set the production going.

Oh, and our DSLR gimbal is really taking shape now and we are working on brushless conversion kits for the Cinestar/Tarot DLSR gimbals.

                    All good fun!
                    Simon

Simon, very interesting, my friend has a cinestar 8 and is using one of these boards(with piggy back). I am sure he would want a single board. - thanks

                        Hi Simon,

if a board on start up does not goto level, what is the issue?

                        Thanks

Do the 6 point calibration, and ensure its still when booting
