  • Camera Gimbal Stabilisation - the Alex Mos solution

I suspect that any of you who are interested in getting a well stabilised camera gimbal system will have already heard of Alex Mos.

Getting an excellent stabilised platform is notoriously difficult. I use expensive stuff for my commercial Hex which cost me about £1000.00 and that's cheap - the Zunmuse costs over £3000.00!!

Then along came Alex Mos who put together a board that is pretty much every bit as good as the high end professional stuff for a fraction of the cost.

If you have not yet seen this amazing controller then take a look here:

I'm so impressed with this thing that my company (Desire RC) is going to manufacture this under license here in the UK. We are now going through the process of obtaining all the information so that we can get the boards manufactured (here in the UK - not china). We are also looking at providing the specialist gimbal (initially for the GoPro and similar) along with specially wound brushless motors.

When I saw how damn good this little Alex Mos controller is, I was completely blown away. Add it to an effective and well thought out gimbal which will probably add up in total to no more than £300.00 - now that's a game changer.

The cost for the controller board will be approximately £99.99. I have no idea how much the gimbal will be 'cos we haven't designed it yet! So here is the offer guys..... if there are any of you out there that would be interested in designing and possibly making a suitable gimbal that could make use of the Alex Mos controller then please let me know and if we end up using it then you will get cut in on the gimbal deal which we will distribute.

    Cheers,
    Simon

Wow! Gimbals are a nightmare to setup as you say. My AV200 setup cost nearly £1500 with all the toys on it!

    Most annoying lol.

Yeah I know what you mean! But the thing is that I can now seriously consider putting a very good gimbal on my other smaller Hex and Quad to use either a GoPro3 or Nex5 to take really good footage without having to break the bank (again)!

      Cheers,

lovely and smooth. I have some sheets of G10 and a hacksaw for a home brew gimbal - does that count? hehe

Might look into one of those brushless gimbal drivers for my FPV H quad I'm building.

Have you considered a variation on the "rustic wave" gimbal? Can be found on rcgroups.

This is great news and I'll definitely be on the list for a controller and motors.

Happy to do tests on one of my rigs too if need be...

Do you want a metal or a carbon gimbal?

I'm interested in both as they have different advantages - the metal has durability and "mass" that helps with the more professional end of the scale, whilst the carbon gimbal will have significant weight advantages that will lend itself to the smaller quads and hex airframes which is of particular interest to general hobbyists.

                  Cheers,

Prototype boards are on order to test before I commit to manufacture. I hope to have them soon so that I can load the alex mos firmware and check functions.

                      Cheers,
                      Simon

Got my Flyduino versions on route from Deutschland as we speak, been following this for a while, near Zenmuse ability for a fraction of the money. Awesome.

The prototype board is here and the plan is to fit the components over the coming week.

                            desire blg board.jpg

Once I've done some in house checking, a couple of the completed boards (pre-loaded with the Alex Mos code) will be shipped out for some end users testing.

Hopefully, if all goes well, then I will start the full UK manufacturing.

                            Exciting times!

                            Cheers,
