  • How are you mounting your 808?

I've just ordered an 808 v16 mini DVR with wide angle lense and I was wondering if any of you are using one and how you are attaching it to your heli's. It's small enough to simply Velcro to the bottom of the canopy or chassis but I'm worried about vibration. Does anyone have any useful tips on isolating the camera from vibration?

I've been meaning to look into the same thing as this is what happens if you velcro it to the bottom of the heli (my Trex 500 in this case) there must be a good mount out there somewhere unless it's as simple as putting some gyro foam between it and the heli!

Would strapping them down with a velcro strap work maybe?

Dunno Dani, I could try it (I sell the stuff on eBay so got a few rolls of the stuff ) but I tried doing that on my Raptor and it just transfered the vibes through to the camera as it was almost unwatchable. I thought maybe doing the same to it as you'd do for a gyro putting it on a foam pad to reduce the vibes....will try it when my next spares order is delivered!

I have a Q5 Mini DV camera. Same sort of thing I guess.

I tried tapping it to the skid and got a vibe problem.
Trex 500 Skid Cam mpg - YouTube goes all jelly like

Then I Velcro to the top of the canopy and tapped down with a heap of tape. Is better but still not perfect. I figured the canopy is rubber mounted as well so would help. T500 On Board - YouTube

Next trick is to ditch the velcro and put a rubber pad under it. I think taping it down tight helps.

Let us know if you find a solution.

I strapped mine onto the bottom of the main frame with some foam pads and zip tyes no vibes

Also, where can I get the wide angle adapter, I saw it on eBay before but can find it now :/

                Cheers

Not sure about the adapter as mine came with the wide angle as standard. Do a search for "D Type 120 lens"

I zip tied a cheap cam from aldi in some foam I think part of the problem is sound its to much for the Mic.
I have taped foam over and get better result.

Try adding some mass to the camera and then fix the unit to the heli (a place with low vibes) with a few gyro pads.

The pads should add some damping to the system (you ideally want an over-damped system so the more damping the better)

The mass added to the camera should reduce the natural frequency of the system, with the idea being to reduce the natural frequency to a value lower than that generated by the helicopter - I guess the main frequencies are going to be motor speed, main rotor speed and tail rotor speed. The addition of mass could also make the problem worse (dependent on pad stiffness and camera mass) so its worth experimenting a bit with different amounts of mass.

If you assume that the camera and mounting system approximates a single degree of freedom system then the elements that can be adjusted to alter its response are mass (of camera), stiffness and damping (of the pad/ mounting system).
