  • GoPro WiFi signal effecting Ghz frequency?

Hi all, I was watching a video here on u tube about a guy who was claiming that the WiFi from his camera was interrupting the signal from Tx to Rx on his heli which resulted in a crash?
Has anyone here had or heard of anything like this before?
I want to try and operate my Gopro hero3+ on a Raptor 50 using a Spektrum Dx6i but thought I'd better find out if there is any known issues first.

    Many thanks

      Thanks for your feedback Sao.
What sort of problems can it give.

      Cheers

Thy both function on the same frequency, so the 'noise' from the camera wifi can 'blind' the receiver from seeing the Tx signals.

Essentially if that happens, it will go into failsafe and you crash.

          Oh dear !
Thats not good then. I'm so glad I stumbled across that vid and asked you guys this question because I would have flown it with the WiFi on so who knows what would have happened next?
Thinking on I should have looked at the WiFi frequency that the camera uses. Something to remember for the future.

A Big thankyou to you both for sharing.

          Cheers

            you are welcome.

In the UK wifi is either 2.4 or 5.8Ghz , and our controllers (tx) are almost all 2.4Ghz now.

It is the close location of the wifi transmitter on the camera to the receiver, and the relatively distant location of the Tx to control your heli that is the issue. Someones wifi router 600m away isnt going to give you the same problems.

so can you change whether the wifi is at 2.4 or 5.8 on the gopro or is that a power thing that will not happen on the unit?
is this the same for all, i.e using a different receiver etc. I'm looking at aerial video and photography etc

On the gopro the wifi is only 2.4, you cant change the frequency. You could turn it off to avoid interfering with the main receiver.

bit of a noob question but is that the only way to transmit the video link to the monitor?

turn the inbuilt wifi off and downlink through an external 5.8ghz transmitter. :-)
