i have been looking at those cheap ebay batteries as well but can't really find proper reviews about them so dont know yet.

I was kinda worried about the price too and the talks of a new 4 coming out soon (maybe next month) but i needed to get it now for my honeymoon in 2 weeks' time and i want some underwater videos!
At the moment, I only have an 8gb card tho.. maybe a 16gb card is enough considering the battery is only a tad over an hour anyway.

The app is great altho I tend to only use it to set up my FoV and once i've framed it, I switch wifi off. Can't really use the app for live recordings - the lag is so bad!

I also got the LCD bacpac with the extended cover so can frame shots wherever (includes touch capable back although apparently touch doesn't work underwater).

Got to get practicing for the 10th anniversary holiday/cruise so thought the LCD bacpac would be really useful. I have not fully checked yet, but it does seem the bacpac further harms battery life, so a spare battery is also required.

Get yourself a 12v cigarette charger with USB output socket as well. At least you can charge from a car, I also use my iPhone wall charger (with various country adaptors) which has a usb output socket as it charges quicker than a PC and you can normally find a wall socket easier than a PC.

I read a decent report (there is a post on youtube) regarding the wasabi range of batteries for the gopro hero3 black. Type in "wasabi battery"

^^I read a review somewhere... the wasabi, altho higher (only a tad) in MaH, it's shorter in life but i believe that comparison i read, the wasabi battery was new and needed breaking in compared to his genuine gopro battery that's been cycled a few times already.

WVGA 240 Wide Aliasing present. Looks decent enough on YouTube.
720 60 Wide Looks great.
720 120 Wide Jagged edges at full resolution. Looks great when scaled down for YouTube.
720 120 Narrow No aliasing, no lens distortion. Clean, great slow-mo.
960 48 Wide Unknown.
960 100 Wide As with 720-120-wide, this has jagged edges at full res. Could be fixed by stretching to 1080.
1080 30 Wide One of the cleanest modes, no improvement over 2.7k-30-wide.
1080 60 Wide Slightly softer than 30fps but hardly noticeable. Reduces rolling shutter, great for action.
1080 60 Medium Very clean, less lens distortion and good slow-mo
1080 60 Narrow Softer overall, no lens distortion (Nore like dSLR). Sensor noise could be an issue
1440 30 Wide Very sharp and very clean, great POV. Aspect ratio is 4:3 though.
1440 48 Wide Some aliasing at full res. Some jagged edges. Looks good scaled down
2.7k 30 Wide Excellent. Sharp as a knife. Does exhibit rolling shutter. Nice motion blur. Good in low light.
2.7k 24 CIN Same as 2.7k-30-wide but at 24fps with top and bottom of image cut off.
4k 15 Wide Good for timelapse with added blur in CineForm and conformed to 30FPS
4k 12 CIN Same as 4K-15-wide but lower framerate and top and bottom cut off.

I tend to use 1080 medium for most of my hero 3 black filming - excellent results! I will buy the Hero 4 when it comes out as well, mainly for the 4k higher frame rates.

Hero3 Black edition has 4K @ 15fps and 12fps

Thanks for both of those Paul.
The fish-eye effect nearly put me off the GP black edition, but I relented and bought one used and was sooo impressed with the sharpness & colour balance and smoothness / lack of missing frames, I was glad I did.
Now, if I can straighten the fish-eye, well, it is a flipping magic camera for its size and weight.
I'll get the GoPro Studio 2 up and running ASAP.

IMHO, the more I have played with the GoPro Studio2 the more I want to export into iMovie, it seems pretty basic (but that could be my lack of experience with it! and to be fair it is free s/ware), but I'm going to try and export in a format (as loss-less as possible) suitable to load into iMovie for final editing and see what happens.

I posted earlier that I wondered if using the fisheye correction in the GoPro studio may have caused the extra bit of jello viewing, but it appears I was talking out of my jello....

Posted is a vid without fisheye correction and there are signs, probably worse without fisheye correction! Defo a vibes issue to be solved.....

I did painlessly export this into iMovie to do the small amount of editing. This was a really simple process: when you export to save from GoPro Studio2, you set it to save in cineform then you just open iMovies and import the file and away you go.

Hi Sparky,

The bracketry I used came with my camera (new), but looking at the grab bag I think you could do it with that. Have a look at the pictures earlier in the thread, you should be able to be sure from those.

Make sure the slide mount you put on the heli is the flat type. I also attach a tether from the camera to the skid just in case......

One slight warning, although the heli fly's fine, the camera weight does affect some flight characteristics in that the heli does want to roll that way on things like loops or auto's, not massively, but does need a little controlling.

Cheers Pj, GoPro Hero3 Black is a great camera.

I've been looking at that myself, but it needs to go a long way out front (on the 550e) to get ground clearance as there is nowhere to mount it sensibly even if you cut the canopy. I am looking at two styles of mounting system, one works from a servo controlled hinged mount under the frame at the front (folded up for landing/take off, then moved anywhere to directly forward when flying) and the other is some kind of bracket that uses the upturns on the skid pipes with a third support to somewhere (needs some more work this one lol!), but needs to be as light as poss' without introducing more vibes. If I get anywhere I will post pics.
