  • My first FPV Experience

    I had my first FPV flying experience this morning......all I can say is WOW....fooking WOW.

    Ben Mayhew (HeliBen) kindly tested the range of my IBcrazy Antenna's out...and we can confirm the range exceeds Futata 2.4ghz lol. We completely lost sight of quad. Thank god for the Failsafe RTH function on the NazaM-v2. I thought it was a gonna, then about 4 mins later, we heard something flying above us, and there is was coming into land.

    My first flight went well, except I completely lost where the field was, (easy done if you are not careful), again, failsafe was a god send. Currently uploading my first FPV vid (taking ages though). Will post when its finished.

    Cant wait to have another go, GoPro recording quality is superb, the gimbal holds the shot really stable, and the FPV goggle are really clear. Fantastic morning
    James

          I'm hoping someone at the field gets into this soon so I can have a go.

          We're almost there. There's a guy with a Phantom, gopro, gimbal, and 5Ghz video Tx on it, but he flies line of sight with a monitor that he can glance at to check what his camera is seeing.
          Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
          Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

                Ben found signal not too good with some other Antenna, but with the IBcrazy ones he still had video signal even though his tx was out of range. I have these;

                VAS IBCrazy 5.8Ghz 3 Turn Helical Antenna VAS-1004

                VAS IBCrazy 5.8Ghz Mad Mushroom Antenna VAS-1009

                    FPV Is definitely getting popular, how far do you think you travelled before you lost control of it?

                      any idea in regards of distance? the helical antennas are usually very good but still interested how you would measure that you still had VTX connection though the radio TX has already locked out - as it stop and return home once the TX locks out - VTX could lock out any second after that ...also interested in hight and VTX/VRX you are using ...

                        Ben reckons it was approx 2.1km ish. I was spotting him, it got pretty small (F550), heard him say I have lost signal and its gone to FS. I looked away and then could not see it until I heard a buzzing sound above me. He had video feed all the way. Gutted he didn't film it though.

                        He could tell as his FPV goes through the GoPro and he has positioned the LED status light on the F550 on the front arm which is in view of the GoPro.

                        We are both getting on screen displays ASAP!!

                          But an OSD is rather useful
