  • Technical Assistance DJI Phantom 2

    Hi All,

I have been having major problems with my DJI Phantom 2

Has flown off on more than one occasion, 3 times today.....

Try to hover but off she goes, compass dance done and green lights before taking off.

I am based in Aberdeen, Scotland and I am looking for a shop or person who can check out my Phantom for me (paid)

I also work in London (Victoria, but can travel!)

So if anyone can please point me in the right direction I would be most grateful, I am really struggling with this

I just want to get flying in a safe and enjoyable manner

Any and all help gratefully received

    Thank You

    Suggy

Phantom flyaways are very common (phantom flyaway - Google Search). One of the more plausible theories is that noise from the GoPro affects the GPS and the quad shoots off to the wrong GPS fix. If the problem affects you regularly try flying with the camera off and see if things get better. Then you can investigate ways to shield the camera.

A friend of mine also experienced a flyaway using NAZA in GPS mode. He flicked back to manual mode and manage to regain control.

Are you using a dji transmitter? Or have you fitted your own eg futaba spektrum etc?

How are these able to be sold here when they fly on 5.8...I thought rc aircraft had to be flown on 2.4 only....

          They are 2.4???

Think you will find the video is running on 5.8.

Ok,looks like you can get both.

So,are you waiting long enough for the gps to be located by enough satalites?

In my experience flyaways are almost always due to issues with the compass. On the phantom the compass is down on the skids locating it near to an underslung camera if fitted. If the calibration is done without the camera fitted or on then when the camera is replaced it could be causing issues. Remove any camera if fitted and try calibration and flight again. Check thas the compass is not damaged and is fitted corectly. Fly it in manual mode to start with, park it in a stable hover first and before setting it to gps atti so that it is clear if something is wrong and it is easy to recover by flicking back out of gps atti. Try it in a large space and try and let it do its own thing for a bit to see if it tolet bowls (loosly circles for a bit).

The phantoms do fly on 2.4 but the phantom 2 use 5.8 for control so that the video can be transmitted via wifi without interferance, they use a wifi repeater to enhance the range between your phone or tablet and the phantom itself.

So the phantom 2 flies using 5.8 and uses 2.4 for the video which is boosted...would this boosting be more powerful than our radios....
