  • MR25 on Fire!

    Hi

Just thought I'd have a quick hover in the garden, 30 seconds in the hover and the quad suddenly falls out of the sky, only about 10 feet and sets on fire! Lots of smoke, I quickly unplug the battery thinking it is the battery but nope!

Completely burnt through the case as you can see in the photo. Are these the ESCs? I suspect so, do you think this is covered by the guarantee? If it was a washing machine it would be! Battery was fine, one I've used many times before, just a 3 cell 2200mAh.

Yes, that's part of an ESC that's been toasted.

I'd fully expect that to be covered by warranty if it didn't happen as a result of a crash.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

If you have the same success as some of the guys at our club, Align will refuse any liability and only offer new parts at 40% of the original price. Most of the circuit board burn ups I have investigated were caused by shorted turn on the motors, which seem to fail regularly. One chap only plugged the battery in for the MR25 first flight and as soon as he advanced the throttle the board caught fire. He returned the unflown unit to the shop and they sent it back to Align who responded with "not a manufacturing fault may have been caused by the unit being used in damp conditions) - that dispute continues !

Will be interesting to hear how you get on

That sounds like very poor customer service from Align.

Barry - interesting about the 'used in damp conditions' my friend had exactly the same excuse when his main board gave up, not quite as dramatic as mine. He is going through the process of trying to get a main board at the discounted rate at the moment. I'll see how it goes with the retailer I purchased it from.

Easy answer to this chaps, don't buy an align one. There's one in particular in the club that if it was his first introduction to quads he would have given up by now, what a frustrating way to launch a model. Just for balance there are those in the club that have flown away, 2 individuals and 1 not found. I put a screamer in the air for around £150 using the Naze, it's been in dirt more times than I care to count, broke nothing but props and still flys better then the MR25. Which is a shame as I love the design

TBH this is the main reason why i stayed well away from the Align quads... if your getting into racing quads then there are far better ways to spend your money...

I was interested, but my £20 carbon ZMR frame, Naze32 board, HK Blue ESC's and SunnySky motors have been bullet proof, all for less than £200 inc all FPV gear.

Dont think I'll be getting one now having read this....
