  • Align T-Rex 450 SE New V2 + GY401 + S9650 + HS65-MG - £435

OK, so rather than wait to get a Blade 400 when they come out, I am opting to go for a 450 SE V2. I have completely outgrown my blade Cx2 and have been abusing T-rex's on Phoenix for a too long. I appreciate spending a bit more now should save me money in the long run. My only concern is the carbon frame, and if I would be better with the alloy verson in terms of its ability to take damage?

    I have researched like crazy the best spec to get (thanks must go to Trex tuning and this site btw). It seems the following setup paired with a Dx7 transmitter/reciever would be good ;

    Align T-Rex 450 SE New V2 + GY401 + S9650 + HS65-MG x3

As luck would go there is a london based internet site selling them (speced as above) for the bargain price of £435 . My only problem is the price seems too low, and collection from london is not allowed

    http://just-heli.com/index.php?main_...&products_id=4

I suspect he is buying them direct from Hong Kong from http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/prod...oducts_id=1745
He is also selling a Trex se v2 with Futaba g 6EXH Radio ready built on his site, and it seems too much of a coincidence his special deal is the same as the flying hobby special deal.

With no VAT / Duty the kit with the 401 works out to £350 plus shipping. I have no problem buying from HK with Credit card protection, but if I get hit with Vat and duty will pay more than if I go through the just-heli site!

I guess it all depends if he has them in stock or not, and whether he orders them direct from HK, in which case I could pay £430 plus 27.5% customs duty. I have allready e-mailed him re-stock vat. etc.

What I am asking is basically what would you experience guys do? Has anyone used / heard of the just-heli.com site, or even ordered from flying-hobby.com?

Also do me a favour and just reassure me I am doing the right thing with the spec I have chosen. As I say I totally agree with using expensive electronics/alloy rotor heads for durability, ease of flying etc. The thought of a of a total destruction landing still weighs heavily on my mind though .

I share your fear of too cheap...collection would be best but you say this is not an option...maybe someone on here could collect for you and post - if anyone in area? (bit of hassle)

I often prefer to pay a bit more on the understanding that whoever sells it to me will give me some support in answering questions (I am buying through my teacher, not cos he is cheapest but because he is always on the end of the phone to help)

I wouldnt worry about a total destruction of the heli as you simply will not break everything and spares are easy to get. (seems flybars etc are the most common) I have also read a lot saying not to put the Gyro on top of the frames as the flybar can cut it in half (look on Trex tuning)

There is always the danger of "buy cheap and buy twice" why not support your local heli shop (LHS) or a reputable supplier and if you must ask them to match the price where possible?

Dunno about the supplier maybe someone else on here has dealt with them. Looks a good price long as you don't get hit with anything else.

The spec looks good basically what im flying except mine is the version 1 of the SE.

Their a great little heli, the sideframes on mine are extremely strong there are basically 4 parts each side has an upper and lower and in all the crashes ive had ive only broke the left hand side lower frame and ive hit the ground HARD a few times including full power inverted and the V2 frames are slightly heavier, as this is what mine got replaced with.

The HS65MG's are good again ive had a few smashes now and ive only broken 1 set of gears so I rate them highly. The 401 and 9650 are a great combination and what an awful lot of people use on their trex's.

go for good batteries Im now using the Revo's 18c from Aurrora about £30 a time charging on a 4S which I think is an excellent charger.
      All the best

I emailed just-heli and they basically ship direct from HK. Delivery time is 4-5 days. I might as well order direct from HK then ? (and hope it get through customs OK).

What spares would people reccomend I get witht he Heli? I was thinking main shaft, feathering shaft, paddle shaft, tail shaft, main gears?

Also what do people think of air thunder or kong li-po packs. They claim to last longer than normal li-po packs and not puff.

The only reason to buy really cheap lipos is if you are worried you are going to crash so hard you write them off.
Now that the revolutions are £35, you may as well have them. The previous best kokams were over 50 quid and I couldn't bring myself to buy them!

I crashed hard, my cheap far east import lipos survived unscathed, but only lasted 30 cycles anyway.

When I emailed him asking if his prices were plus VAT he said it was "just £435 plus shipping". If it is comming direct from HK there would be a high risk of having to pay the VAT and import yourself. I have come to the conclusion it is just better to order direct from HK. Only problem is they have sold out of spektrum Dx7's.

Well I can confirm I bought my Gaui EP100 pro with all the gubbins from the Just Heli guy. He answered emails and generally was good to deal with. The item was shipped from HK and marked as a gift and of low value so I did not have to pay any Duty.

I have also ordered Items from the Flying Hobby site and Fung has even agreed to replace a part of the Tail rotor set that was damaged without any hassel so all I can say is my experiance has been a positive one.

Enough so that I have ordered more parts.

                  Regards

If two of you guys have dealt with them then thats good enough for me. Thanks for the advice . What spares should I order? I always prefer to have some spares rather than having to wait, besides I am sure I am going to need tham anyway !

I was thinking main shaft, feathering shaft, paddle shaft, tail shaft, main gears, 3 sets of wood blades and tail rotors?

the usual culprits I bend are all shafts, main tail and feathering spindle. Flybar, and the skids usually get broke. you can get a virtually unbreakable skid I think its a gorilla skid but not sure the supplier, I have in mind Midland but others on here will know for sure.

Paddles ive only done once and that was a full blown inverted crash full power. ive done the main gear a couple of times, worth getting a backup.
Tail booms do tend to get a battering as well. Ive found the metal ones bend fairly easily I use the carbon ones there a bit more expensive but ive only ever broken 1 of them.

Most parts for the 450 come in packs of 2 or 3 so you buy a pack for the first repair and you have a spare for next time
