So - total strip down this time and lets see what we've got.

Lo and behold - the frames have been assembled twisted... Sheesh! Still, now I know where the vibes are coming from and why it was tricky to align the engine!

As you will see from the pictures, the plastic mouldings with the pitch indicators on are not installed. Is this the norm with the carbon frames?

I also have a pair of CNC Ali frame stiffners - shall I bother putting them on dya think?

Cheers for everyones help so far - this is turning into a bit of a nightmare!

Seems like you've got to the bottom of the trouble though.
      Fingers crossed.

I wouldn't worry about the plastic pitch indicator moulded part - you don;t need it, it's just a guide.
It might be an idea to use the ali sideframe stiffeners though, I think they're pretty light but do a good job at the same time.

      Cheers,

strip it and start again.. obviously the person who "slapped" it together needs to take more care.
the plastic pitch gauge doofer needs to be in on all the types of r90 frames
the frame stiffeners add a fair amount of weight so i'm told and aren't necessary.. i'm running the old type r60 frames on my 90... no problems
        cheers Lee

If it ain't broke fix it until it is
yes i'm an idiot and no i couldn't care any less

oh i see you've the ally stand off's... you don't need the plastic pitch indicator then.. my bad it acts as a brace between the two frames normaly
          cheers Lee

The stiffnrers are quite heavy - i think i'll leave em out for now... make acces and further strip downs easier - there's confidence for ya heh?

Oh well - back to it!

Jeez this thing goes on and on!
Folloing the total strip down, I found that the glow plug was pretty loose...funny how i hadnt checked that, I guess it may have been a cause for the funny rev range! So took her up the field sunday for yet another test, and the engine not only would not start, it was making horrible noises like there was something being thrown around inside it!
So I stripped the engine last night...
Guess what? Head bolts all loose too! I think this thing must have been running really hot at some point. Luckily no markes on the piston or liner that I could see so I reassembled it after a thorough look over.
Ran her in the garden and she started first time and idled nicely.

There could be a light at the end of the tunnel
(but it might have OS stamped on it)

                Check everything.

its very easy to be lazy mate, i was today and nearly took me heed off. just bought a used model which was very new (four flights) . thought it would be good for the kids. well checked most of it but was lazy with some hard to get to bits. Everybody loctites the tail hub on don't they ?? well if they don't they are KIN fast going past ur left ear.
i'm not saying that these things are in anyway malitious but some people are beginners and have no idea of what is correct.

anyone got a spare gallon of loctite.

                  just for the record...

if your bolting into metal USE LOCTITE!!

if your bolting into plastic or into a nyloc nut then dont use loctite.

Ade - what loctite do you use for your heads? I think my normal type - its blue - wouldnt have any holding power once it warms up...

Whilst we're on the subject of fluids...
Can I recommend this product - I use it for exhaust header to engine mating, and other stuff like stopping the ehaust deflector coming off.

It's called BONDLOC B574 Instant Gasket.
It's an anaerobic adhesive made by bondloc aparently but the font looks like 'Loctite' to me...

It's quick and easy to use, and much better than epoxy, and I've never had an exhaust leak or fall of since I've been using it.

i use loctite 401 for most stuff. its blue. I use 601 on the pinion bearing.

a big bottle from the local bearing supplier is about 11ukp.
