  • Blade 400 Servo Stripping

    Hi Guys,

I have just managed to strip the teeth off 3 of the Blades stock servo's. After some reading and some advice (thanks boggy) i have ordered 4 HiTec HS-65MG to replace what i have stripped.

After doing some more reading, i found that it is a common problem. Is this a design fault, a bad batch or just the result of being cheap?

Anyway, once the new ones arrive ill get them installed, and hopefully back to flying status!!

it seems to be a common result of a crash aidi. i think its just because they are low quality cheap parts!
i did see you can use jr servo gear sets but to be honest hitec mg are the way to go.

After a crash I have had to order replacment gears for two of the servos...

I think I may look into those HiTec HS-65MG servos...

Are they ok for the tail aswell?

      Thanks,

        Just had another thought......

If a crash happens and teeth in the Servos are stripped then what will break if the servos are upgraded?

£70 ish to upgrade all servos... to HiTec HS-65MG...

£1.99 to replace the gears on the servo..

What would break if the servo didnt, maybe a more expensive part??

        Who knows..

Let us know how it goes after a crash with the new servos installed.. Sorry, Not wishing you to crash it but you get my drift..

        Thanks,

        Matt

After a quick consultation with Boggy i have decided to replace with 3x HS-65MG's and 1x Futaba S3156 M/G for the tail. They should be here tomrrow so ill let you know how i get on with them. I did more reading about the stock servo's stripping, and it seems to be a very common problem. Hopefully this new set will eradicate this problem.. dont know if it will stop me from crashing though!!

Apologies for opening this old thread but I want to know if this is the best route for Blade servo replacement? I've stripped yet another servo, this time with the heli spooling up on the floor, thank goodness.
If this is the right way to go will the 3156 be a direct replacement without having to change the gyro ?
And does anyone know who has these on offer at the moment ??
Thanks for any help.. I need all I can get...

The HT55's lose teeth fairly easy, but a set of gears at £2.75 is a cheap repair.

rob the futaba 3156 would fit but to be honest they are about £12each dearer than the hitec 65 mg's. that makes it an expensive conversion mate. these are cyclic servo's the thread is about .
if youve stripped the tail you will need a 3153 its perfectly adequate and around twenty quid. or even cheaper a hitec 50 works.

Ron, its a cyclic that has stripped again. I'm worried about putting the heli in the air now as this will be the third one thats gone, the last one went whilst airborne and I was very lucky to get it on the ground in one piece. I think its time change all of them, I just want you to tell me whats the best to replace all of them with..and where is the best place to get them from..

p.s. Aide has done a cracking job with my Rappy now the ball race kit and new servos are in..

thank you wayne.you have just made me realise something! can i just put my posts into perspective.
although i agree hs65mg's are great servo's. they are not the cheapest! nor is the futaba 3153.
the blade 400 is not and never will be a trex replacement. its a cheap alternative.it is what it is!!
i will continue to replace and upgrade parts on mine with the cheapest alternatives. so i can recomend them with honesty.
up till now my blade has flown with little trouble. ive had two crashes and am still on the original cyclic servo's. my tail is using a hitec hs50(£8.95) the upgrades ive done are flybar from a trex and paddles from a trex. which work out at £2.00 over stock.

if im asked is "x" servo good i'll answer yes if i think so, but is it the best or cheapest--mmmmh who knows.

after all why fit a spartan 760 on a heli that's worth less than the gyro!

                      Hi all
Just stripped one of my cyclic servo's and was wondering where you get the gears from for £1.99 as the cheapest I can find them for is £2.65, I know it's not alot of money but when your going to buy a few the extra pence makes a difference.
                      Thanks

My 450 flys beautifully with the HS55's I have three which are having new gears installed, but these broke through learning curves and one TX aerial fault which I wasn't to blame for.

Plus for a total of around £7 for new gears for all three, I'll have three HS55 spare servos ready when I have another slightly fast kiss of the grass.

Since I've been doing the upgrading and replacing spare parts on my Trex many things have started to make perfect sense.

Heli's like the Blade 400 the GL450 and such come with "adequate" servos to make them fly, but they all really need better off the shelf servos to really bring out the best with them.

A bit like Hi-Fi, all separates come with cheap el crapo Phono plugs, but you wouldn't link a £300 CD deck to my Audiolab amp with crap audio leads, I use Sonic link and Cable Talk Talk, and the difference in sound quality is enormous.

And the same analogy applies with RC Heli's, by all mean buy the B400 it's great, build quality TX, Blades etc, but the Servo's are like the Hi-Fi's equivalent of phono leads, you by a little better than the one's supplied, and you end up with a much better flying helicopter.

Not wishing to hijack the thread, but can i ask a related question?

I've just stripped one of the cyclic servos and had to replace it, but i'm not sure how to set up the new one correctly i.e. how do i know i've attached the arm to the right spline to get the correct travel? The tail servo is obvious to setup as it has limited travel in each direction, but i'm not sure about the cyclic.

I've been reading the thread with interest as this is the first servo i've stripped even though my Blade's been dropped so often i'm considering making sculptures with the pile of bent mainshafts i've got. I presume i've just been lucky with the servo's, but i think the 65's will be on the shopping list in the future and possibly a 401 gyro.

                              Thanks guys.
