  • Charging DX7s with imax b6?

    Hello,
Was wondering as i am taking my heli on holiday and only want to take 1 charger (1 thing less for me to lose/forget) so is it possiable to charge my dx7s using my Imax b6?I have heard there are a few issues with polarity.
    Many thanks,
    Liam

Your charger has the capability of charging the DX7s battery (nimh) so I guess it's just a case of making a charging cable for it.

You *must* remove the battery from the DX7S if you want to do this.

Like the DX8, the DX7S has the charging circuit built into the radio and comes with an external power supply, not a charger.

This isn't like the DX7 or DX7SE where you could plug a charger straight into the radio.

Wait, so the charger it came with is just a 12v supply?

That is certainly the easiest way to go, personally I don't like the Spektrum charge circuit for NiMH as it is just a dumb trickle charge so better to use the B6 if you can.

Pity really, Spektrum made the charge circuit work properly for Lipo but didn't bother with a peak detect on the NiMH

According to the Transmitter blurb yes:

"The DX7s features a built-in multi-chemistry charger designed to charge 4-cell NiMH and 2-cell LiPo batteries at a charge rate of 200mAh. The charge jack on the right side of the transmitter is non-polarity-critical, allowing the use any type of 12-volt supply to charge the battery regardless of connector polarity."

Yes, it is not a charger.

Is this the same as on the dx6i by any chance?

No, the DX6i still uses an external trickle charger, not a power supply.

The original DX6i is a 4 cell tx and the original DX7 an 8 cell. Both Nimhs. Both chargers are slow low current with JR polarity. Positive on outside as Steve said.

Re: Charging DX7s with imax b6?

I charged my dsx11 pack a few times using two needles attached to crocodile clips and stuck them into the connector - probably best to find a connector though as it's easy to short!
