Frequency hopping may well reduce the masking and reflection problem as each frequency will have a different number of wavelengths to any object. DSM2 would have different random results each time you switch on.

    Don't get too worried about these problems. Radio problems on helis are quite minor compared with all the other things that go wrong.
    The DX6i has an Auto - DSM2 - DSMX selection option in its menu.

      The new one does, the older ones do not, as Spektrum rather unhelpfully updated the DX6i from DSM2 to DSMX without changing the model name.
