  • Spotting a fake?

I've just bought an rx off fleabay for £23 and I'm wondering if anyone has come across any good fakes?
its an ar6200 dsm2 . I know its old tech so that could be why it's cheap but it doesn't seem right to me.
the lettering is really faint and on the batt/bind port on some of them they come with the + and -on the very far left but this one doesn't. I'm probably being really anal but I was just wondering if anyone's come across this. I didn't want to stick it in my heli and then it to come ploughing down!

It is new. Just no packaging. I know some places break up the combo tx/rx to make a little extra so I thought nothing of it as I've got them like this before from ALS hobbies. But I'm getting a bad feeling about this one.

I get caught out every time................it's a nightmare.
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

When the blue light is flashing I am kidding.

Why simplify when it is so much simpler to complicate.

I've always said when it comes to the RX always buy new from a shop... the reason I say this is because it is the central control unit on the model.. if it fails the whole lot comes down..

AND I found you can sell it on later at very close the price you pay for it, at least with futaba RX's anyway unless its very old. RX's hold their value better than the other things in this hobby for some reason!

If your doubting its fake, then you'll be kicking yourself if it does fail!

i know what you mean. I bought a 6100e for my 450 sport and after 6 flights it failed of which i wasnt too impressed with!
turned out to be a fake. Im might be being petty but its going into my 550 so i want to be sure. I'll try and get a pic up of it soon.

I bought the exact same one which comes in a foil backed bag, i also had my my doubts, so i emailed the seller and said 'tell me honestly is this rx a fake?' when he finally replied to my message he said 'as far i know they are genuine'
Now if you were selling a product like that, i'm sure you would know for sure if they were fake or not.
So i have just put it down to experience and certainly won't be risking putting it any of my models, because if it goes out of control not only will i potentially loose a model, but it could also injure someone.
So on that basis i would throw it away and always buy from a reputable Spektrum retailer.
I know these cheap copies can be tempting though, as we are all out to save some money in a hobby that can be at times expensive!

I would only buy my radio gear from a reputable dealer. KLMS, Fast Lads, Midland, Bladehelispares etc. it's not something I'd want to take a chance on.

Send it to horizon and ask them...

I bought a clone park fly rx from a certain online uk shop and received what looked like a genuine spektrum rx. I compared it to a real one and I couldn't tell the difference. They cost a fiver each instead of the 35 for a genuine one. They worked ok but I wouldn't have trusted it in anything nice.

It was great for sim stick...
