Align regulator

Hi,

Is the align regulator B6T, up to the job of supplying enough amps on a nitro flybarless setup?
Trex 700 dfc
615's on cyclic and throttle
655 on tail
Beastx unit

Any thoughts, or what would you recommend?

Hi ive got the same heli kit as you and im selling the align reg as i dont trust it to be up to the job as its only rated 6 amp and has only one power output lead.

Im using the Gryphon 10amp linear regulator. Its got a constant 10amp output with peaks of 20amps and has 2 power output leads. its expensive but is worth the price in quality, hope this helps

Align supply it in the kit so they obviously believe it can, personally I wouldn't use it.

I'm sure that most of the time it will be just fine, but I'm not a fan of 'most of the time' solutions on a big heli

I don't own a FBL 90 sized nitro, but if I did I'd probably be using a Gryphon Extreme if I wasn't using HV servos direct from lipo all round.

I like the way the Gryphon lets you split the voltage to the servos from the voltage to the receiver so you can still run a low voltage tail servo alongside 6V cyclics if you want.

As above I wouldn't recommend it for use on anythign above 600 size machines and even these if they are being pushed hard run the risk of pulling more amps that this unit is able to supply.
It is a shame, as it's a ncie compact unit with glo driver built in, but 6 amps on what are known to be power hungry servo's is not enough.

I used to use an ElyQ, nice little unit and keenly priced but these are not available new it seems. My 700E DFC is running a Gryphon, not cheap but is more up to the task of powering the flight gear than the Align unit.

I wouldn't reccommend the use of a 2 in 1 on anything, pile of poo. Although there are those that have used them forever and had no issues, mine failed and although the reg still worked I felt I couldn't trust it. Why not consider LiFe packs or A123's., 6.6 volts straight to the receiver/fbl unit and no switches electronics in the way to **** things up. The only drawback being the removal of the cano in order to disconnect. There are quite a few of us using this method up the club Ryan including Andy, whom I got it from

For what is worth, I use the align 2 in for my trex 600 and raptor g4. Never had any problem whatsoever, and both have hundreds of flights. I'm no 3d pilot but manage to throw around the heli a bit. I also use a scorpion backup guard for security

What I've done on my 600n is a run the swash servos off the 2 cell lipo (BLS451 servos), and only the tail and throttle servos run through the 2 in1. Though when I ran everything off the 2 in 1 it never gave a problem (I fly quite aggressively ).
The important thing is to check is none of your servos can bind and that everything moves freely throughout the servo travel. That has more effect on the current drawn than the style of flying.
