OK I didn't build this one but even when you do build a heli I think it's the rebuild (yeah, an inevitability) that really shows the oddities.
The oddities on the blitz are that it; the first time I've faced spirol pins. Actually they're kind of neat.. it's a 2.5 turn roll of spring metal (like a rolled up newspaper) that just holds itself when tapped/pressed in.
Getting them out is a different matter:). Because of their nature you need a drift (punch) that fits the outside diameter rather than going inside the coil and widening it. Fortunately a broken 2.5m hex drive round shaft fitted exactly.
It's also been assembled with all the finicky details some of us gloss over..like threadlocking bearings to their holders or shafts. But that bit was done with a nice threadlock that just loosens easily after a few minutes in the oven.
My latest pitfall was the TT ends which come separate and are expoxied in. Every epoxy I've ever used has loosened with a touch of heat..even a ciggie lighter cooking it is enough. But not this time! Heck even my heavy duty plumbers blowlamp didn't soften the glue..although it sadly softened the end parts themselves!!! (cherry red was a clue).. so another little order required.
The only aspect there is that it's holding up the final part of the physical rebuild and I like to do stuff in my own order because I'm planning rewiring it and don't want to start doing that until it's fully back in one piece.
It may not be ready this w/e..but hardly an issue..why we all need more than one heli:cheers2:
