  • Raptor 30 Cyclic Problem

    Hi All,

One week old owner here. I have a Raptor V2 ARTF and a Sanwa RD8000 CSM180 gyro

The model was trimmed and set-up by an very experienced heli pilot and was to all intents and purposes flying quite well.

On his advice, I set about trying to reduce the slop/slack in the starter adapter which is on top of the spindle/shaft that turns to start the engine (the hex headed thing) - it had about 3-4mm play in it.

To get at it properly, I had to remove the pitch collective, and of course the main arms on which it pivots. I did'nt know until they came out, that they were splined, so I didnt make a note of their position (I know Im now paying for going ARTF). After much messing about and trial and error with the spline positions, I settled on a position that left the swash plate level on right stick centered.

Test flight ok, no particular problems except...

I noticed when the heli got light on the trainers, and I was checking the controls, that when I pulled straight back on the right stick, the heli tried to go back and to the right.

Conversley when I tried pushed forward on the right stick the heli attempted to lean forwards and to the left.

When the heli initially lifts off, it remains fairly still, in that it might sit in it's position for a few seconds with no more than a bit of nose left.

It may always have been this way, and I just didnt pay atttention.

I would appreciate any comments on this.

I have tried many different things to rectify it. Adjusting the trims only makes the heli drift off during hands free flight.

Many thanks and apologies for such a long post

        Hi Lee,

Is there anything specific about setting up the cyclic controls you are having difficulties with?

        Cheers,

        Pete.

No theres nothing specific as such... my heli has been setup by alans models in whitley bay (tony cooke set it up). So i am presuming it has been setup correctly as Tony says it flies really really well and i know him personally so trust him. I dont know if its just the centre of gravity or not. Would this make the heli drift of in the direction it is most heavy?
When i counteract the direction it moves in hover using the trims it just changes during forward flight. So if it drifts backwards and to the left whilst hovering i would use the trim to add more right cyclic and forward. This is all ok but when doing forward flight the problem is worsened. The helis nose will just move down and to the right. How can i get round this? Is this normal? Ive heard you can use diffrent trim settings for idle up 1/2.
          Cheers,
          Lee
