Tail rotor - play between hub and grips

Hi,

I am resurrecting a used and a bit unloved Goblin 700.
Just finished the tail rotor bearings replacement, but there is about 1mm of play between the hub and grips on both sides.
There is a rather thin shim between normal and thrust bearings, looking at the manual that should be 0.5mm thick.

Is that normal or should the grips be tight against the hub?
